A matter of perspective

Many of us in Bangalore had a one-day weekend. Thanks to the recent unrest and statewide bandhs this month. However, for some, it was the usual weekly off. For many more, it was a normal day. How many people even get a day off? A two-day weekend to bounce back at a new week of life is just a matter of perspective.

On the road, I spotted this Mini Cooper. I was able to see it catch speed in the rear view mirror and then I timed the shot. Or would you say it was catching up on us? It’s all how you look at the situation. Perspective again. Isn’t it?

At work, who owns the project you are a part of? Your team who is project managing it or the team who puts in their money for the project? Should you look at it as work to be done or goal to be achieved? Whose success is it anyway? Yours or the company’s? It’s how important you consider your work and put your energy and soul to it. A perspective to be aware of when you work with people the next time.

I have a help who cooks in the morning. On most days, the lunch and the dinner are the same. Boxed or laid on the table. Do I need my help or the help needs me? I need her to run my kitchen and her kitchen runs on the income she generates from my kitchen. It’s all how you look at it.

Don’t even look at that glass on the table. It’s filled. Half empty or half full doesn’t make a difference. It is quenching thirst and that’s the thing that matters. Many of us get too fixated on what things mean. What would help is to let that thought go.

What matters is that I got a day off between 9 working days, that I was able to get this shot, the project is on track, I delegate chores and use the time on hand to write and I have a glass of water to keep myself hydrated.

Easy, isn’t it?

Perspective
Who caught who?

  1. Oh yes. Easy indeed. Sometimes we complicate things by over analising them. I know I do. Keeping it simple, believing in teamwork, in the thought that we all need one another – that’s what works. You made a sensible point.

  2. Always a matter of perspective, Parul. I struggle with some issues. Although we pay our help considerably more than the ‘going’ rate and also compensate her in other ways, I always wonder how we sometimes might blow the equivalent a largish slice of her salary on a meal at a restaurant. 😦

  3. It’s really great to be able to see things from different perspectives, than the one that is most popular or commonly preferred.
Great shot of the Mini Cooper 😍

  4. Gorgeous shot. Everything is perspective, right? As a teacher I am lucky because my days are uncomplicated — I know exactly who my work should benefit, and I get the bonus of learning from my students, as well. I plan my days around instruction that I hope is uplifting, inspiring, improving, and active in nature. It’s hard when you can’t see that perspective, when the days are hard and things look dismal, but a moment meditating on that perspective could help for sure. Thanks for providing a window into another way to think! 🙂

  5. Perspective is what life is all about. One person will be happy with a roof on his head while other will crib that its leaking… Lovely writeup Parul – lessons of humility and gratitude embedded in this.

  6. I loved the topic, Parul. Very close to my heart because this one often gets me thinking how one individual feels so happy in the very same situation that another finds unbearable. How we tend to see things in a way defines who we are and what we stand for and you rightly say, all too often we tend to get fixated at what things mean. Just another way of looking at things can sometimes make things so much easy on us.

  7. I love love love this: “Don’t even look at that glass on the table. It’s filled. Half empty or half full doesn’t make a difference. It is quenching thirst and that’s the thing that matters. 8. Thought provoking. It is about perspectives and how we look at things. I can find a certain thing wrong from my perspective but from yours it could be well as right, so nothing is absolutely wrong or absolutely right. The child at home questions a lot about what is good and bad, about who is good and bad (the ‘who’ part especially when we watch TV) and I get stuck because nothing and nobody is purely good or bad, it is the situations. But how do I explain?

  9. True, it’s all a matter of perspective. At the end of the day a job should be done and due credits must be given to both the parties. Often our lives feel a lot better just by a change in perspective… A lot of arguments can be resolved, people can become more understanding by a change in perspective. Though provoking post Parul. And I loved the capture as well.
