Reality Vs. Dreams

Do you see the world through tinted glasses? Are you close to reality?

I would like to think I am very much around reality. If I think about myself, I stay rooted to my basics. It’s not complex cos I know we cannot afford many of the things I think of. As against to what you may think, I don’t have any pinkish or rose colored glasses. However, there are those times when I wonder about many things.

You could call it wishful thinking or you may think otherwise. I have a list of things below that sometimes I wish I could just do. All of this comes from the lives of people I see on my Facebook timeline.

Before we start, if you think, any of the below is directed at you, you are mistaken. Some are fragments from my imagination. Trust me.

  • The life of an NRI – they seem to have more sense of community than the residents.
  • Life of a solo traveler – where tourism departments of various countries fund your travel and you get to see the world.
  • Life of a food connoisseur where you eat and they cook.
  • Regular international vacations to the most exotic places of the world.
  • Husbands who surprise wives with things I can not even imagine.
  • Husbands who write love notes – in our my case, there is love but no notes.
  • Candid photography to capture life’s important moments.
  • Taking up adventure sports – though I wonder if I have so much courage.
  • Feeding penguins and playing with koalas.
  • Trekking through a dense forest and spotting wild animals.
  • (Wo)men who cook some good looking food – those cakes and pasta.
  • People who have planned weekends and long weekends and those who just don’t spend 48 hours sleeping.
  • Those who eat what they want and stay in shape. They keep losing more and I gain their share.
  • Those who have the best pictures on their page – angles, colors and shots.
  • People who travel for work – not many HR folks get that opportunity.

My list just keeps growing. What about yours? Do you have something to add to the list?

I am with Team #CrimsonRush and today is Day 6 of the #BarAThon.

  1. I share some of the items on your wishlist, Parul. Like traveling the world (sponsored by others of course :D), taking good pictures and waiting love notes from the hubby (no notes here too, boo hoo!). But I guess everyone has such a list where we get to add items which attract us. Adventure sports – now that’s something. What did you have in mind ? 🙂

I sympathise with you, Parul. I too look at my Facebook timeline and wonder how some people I know can afford to travel and eat great meals. I could only do that once a year. “those who just don’t spend 48 hours sleeping.” This is exactly me on the weekend – sleeping and resting most of it away. I wonder those who go out and about adventure, where do they get the energy.

Adding to the list, I wonder how some of my friends can do their makeup and dress nicely as if every day is a date with someone. PDA is also something I see a lot of on my social media. Not just love notes, but holidays together or even short trips ever so often. In reality, here I am trying to figure out which is the cheapest things at the grocery shop and figuring out where I want to go with my career 😀

This I believe sums up what social media has done to our psyche. The result in many is discontent. But then if we count our blessings regularly, these will not matter at all.

This is so relatable. Facebook homepage does tempt us a great deal. I wish I could get great pics too, and travel a lot.

  6. I’d pick almost all your list Parul and I’d add kids who clean up after they mess up, who gush over any food I put on their plate, who just LISTEN to me.

Wow! That’s such a wonderful wishlist! If only all of it was possible! And I really like the honesty in your posts Parul! Keep up the good work!

    Cheers

  9. The one thing I really really wish I could do, was to click amazing photographs. But I’m not really good at it. Selfie are another story, but I would love to take a really nice pic of a beach or of a book stand. Or even a plate of pasta.
    *Sigh*
