#WomenAtWork – A Yoga Teacher

I am a Yoga Teacher.

Introduced to Yoga as a child by my mother,

I have mastered the asanas you all wonder.

A Public Relations and Mass Communications professional,

I started practicing in the way that was traditional.

I listened to my heart all along,

somewhere deep down I knew nothing could go wrong.

Leaving a job and moving cities,

my first teaching assignment was in a western country.

My family and friends are my biggest support,

how many are up before 6 am to teach?

I am both a homemaker and a working woman,

financial independence is important to me as a person.

I teach my two children to stay persistent,

for success comes to those who stay resilient.

I would ask you to follow your heart,

things may take time but it’s an art.

I am Nishara Antony and I am a Yoga teacher.

#WomenAtWork – A brewer

I am a brewer.

I know what goes in that can of cider and beer,

and what raw materials make it so dear.

My job fuels my creativity,

it’s the best utilization of my education in Microbiology and Biochemistry.

Over seven years in my career,

the science in the combination of malt, hops, yeast and water still keeps my life in the top gear.

When one door closes, another opens,

my curious nature helped me find my passion as a qualified brewer.

When something is meant to be, things find a way of working out,

my mother, sister and best friend supported me without a doubt.

I challenged stereotypes and stuck to my ground,

like me, you should also allow yourself to think beyond.

Try something different and never give up,

set goals and achieve them for yourself.

I am Andria D’Souza and I am a brewer.

A friend, SN helped me connect with Andria and over my interactions with her, I found Andria to be a friendly person.  I am happy Andria is here to inspire us with her story this Sunday.

#WomenAtWork – A scientist

I am a scientist.

Everyday in my lab is an adventure,

for the human kind and not for leisure.

I love discovering things,

the joy of what’s next gives me wings.

In school, I chose to study Biology and never stopped learning.

The flame of desire to grow in the field never stopped burning.

From masters to doctorate,

Grants helped me set up my lab in this state.

My supportive family is my pillar of strength,

when I feel low, they cheer me up.

Belief in self, enjoying life and standing for each other,

What would I be without my loved ones, I ponder.

When I retire, I will open a French inspired cafe in Pondicherry,

going back home for good, is my plan to be merry.

I believe in equal opportunities for daughters and sons,

being a woman does not make you less than anyone.

Don’t let others decide for you what you can or cannot do,

that’s my message for each one of you.

I am Vaishnavi Ananthanarayanan and I am a scientist.

#WomenAtWork – A captain

I am a captain.

Flying from one destination to the other,

the best life lessons came from my father and mother.

When studying psychology, I found my passion.

One day like a light fills the heart, I knew I was meant to be in aviation.

A flight school in Florida taught me my lessons

and steered my career into the right direction.

I went up the air first with GoAir

and now in IndiGo, in the cockpit is my chair.

Supportive family and friends are my strength,

with their support I can go any length.

If I take a break from flying, like my mother I will be a teacher,

nothing else but a Simulator Instructor.

There is no substitute for hard work and following our goals,

that’s the thing making happy souls.

I am Akriti Sharan and I am a captain.

I am a captain..

I am a captain..

When I was flying to Chennai in July, Akriti was leading us to our destination. Though I was too shy to meet her and say hello, she was friendly enough to share her mail id. Since then, we have been in touch and I am happy to have her on this blog today.

#WomenAtWork – A saleswoman

I am a saleswoman.

This big store is my work arena, and women’s section is my department.

I set the clothes in order and keep the store proper.

Marriage got me to Bangalore and I miss my home.

I love my work for it keeps me busy.

As a couple, we keep expenses at home, easy.

Packed on weekends and relaxed on weekdays,

My job keeps worries at a bay.

This is my independence,

as here I find acceptance.

They pay us and give us breaks and

sometimes, the HR guy makes us play games.

I find sizes for many yet can’t afford any.

I am a saleswoman and my name is Rupa.

I met Rupa in Pantaloons, Bangalore and I found her very friendly and easy to talk to. We engaged in a quick conversation as my friend from work, MS was trying on some clothes. Rupa was happy to pose for this picture and I am glad I had a chance to interact with her.
