I heard about “Sunday Soul Sante” a year back and as it might seem obvious now, it took me one long year to figure out what it actually meant this Sunday.
Talking about weekend plans at work, I got to know that Sante is a Kannada word for market, something similar to a mela in the olden times or a flea market in the modern terms. The Sunday Soul Sante that I am talking about is organized every first Sunday of a month in Bangalore. An open area is chosen for the event and it becomes a place buzzing with various talented entrepreneurs who rent out stalls to bring forward their creations. Not just shopping, there are a lot of options to grab a quick bite – rolls, ice golas, biryanis, jalebies, kebabs and what not. There is talent hunt and also live shows and performances to keep up the spirits of enjoyment.

On this scorching Sunday afternoon, I was out with my friends to explore the Sante. After a long walk from the parking lot to the venue, the moment we stepped in, it felt as if there is innovation and energy all around. It felt good to see young entrepreneurs promoting eco-friendly products, home baking skills, crochet, sketching, painting, crafts, quilling, hand painted junk jewelry and footwear, accessories made out of coconut shell, trendy clothes like the palazzo, petal pants and so much more.
When I was growing up, we associated business with family links and only a handful of people would join this sector. But with time, things have changed. It felt great to see so many young and gifted budding businessmen – and as they say, follow your dreams, with all your means!
Even the crowd was young and enthusiastic. Kids with parents, couples, gang of guys and group of colleagues and extended families leading to an amazing footfall by the time we were ready to leave. Something that really caught my attention were the unique names that I observed – Pink Jalebi, Kharcha Pani, Curiotown, aPaulogy, Footsy, Soul works, Green Essence, Sunshine Balcony, the Yellow Button, Tree Craft, No Strings Attached, Pigtails and Ponys, the Purple Turtles, Chumbak, Snow Gola, and yes the cutest Jalebi Bhai 😀
For those who did not want to miss their weekend dose of booze, there were vodka pani-puris and some wine golas with kala khatta or whatever flavor excites the taste buds.
I would have loved stuff at more reasonable prices but still none of us left a chance to buy all that we liked 🙂
Oh yes, not to forget there was a Tarot Card reader too for those who wanted a sneak peek in future – I did not explore that cos I knew I am going back home to a value conscious husband 😉

All in all, it was a great day spent out of our mundane lives and I am certainly looking forward to the next!

by seeing the pics i can make out how tempting things were there . i wish i could be there !

I wouldn’t expect so much happening in flea market 😛
Loved the article and what made me laugh was “cos I knew I am going back home to a value conscious husband”.
