Bliss in Humanity

How do you feel when a stranger helps you cross a busy road? How do you feel when someone gives you back your lost wallet with all the valuables intact? Have you even noticed a smile on that kid’s face when you stop at a signal and buy a little rose? Have you ever tried a random act of kindness?

A lot of people I talk to believe that life is a journey. Imagine what would life be if you just had to think of yourself and the smile on your face. A journey is perfect when people around you are as happy as you are. The real joy is making your life meaningful for others and not just for your family members. MS, a friend and a peer did something similar this weekend. She tried to spread a little joy and participated in a totally random act of kindness. All thanks to her for sharing her experience with me and helping me blog for community for the first time on this blog.

Compassionate Clowns in Bangalore are a group of individuals who paint faces, let their fears and inhibitions out of their minds and try to spread joy in the lives of others. They mimic, make funny faces, and try out various other gimmicks to bring a smile on the face of someone who is in pain. What do these clowns gain out of this activity? Well, the bliss of being a human and sharing a happy moment with someone who needs it the most. Compassionate Clowns do not operate in isolation. They team up with various other events in Bangalore so that genuine people could join them and take up this experience. This is not a profit-making organization but a hope-making one. They are affiliated to a larger Australian non-profit organisation known as the Humanitarian Clowns. Their various projects include clowning  for elders who are alone and in pain, for kids who are struggling to survive on account of ill-health and even those who are homeless and fight extreme weather conditions. They welcome volunteers with open arms and all they need is someone who has a kind heart and a little time to spare.

MS mentioned that clowning for others is not an easy task. Who wants to be stared at while pulling out car from the parking and knowing that her face is painted in bright red and yellow? As individuals, we are all conscious of our public appearances and roaming around with a painted face can be intimidating. Compassionate Clowns help you first participate in skits and other activities so that you feel comfortable with what is coming up next and then towards the end of the session takes you over to a place when you could throw away your own self and become a clown at heart for some time. MS and her the team was led by Harish who was their instructor and they went to St. John’s Hospital, Bangalore to entertain kids.

Bliss is not just about yourself but about everyone else around you. Bliss is in seeing the joy on someone else’s face and knowing that you brought that joy. How many times have you been thankful about all what you have in this life? Bliss is about being grateful and sharing this feeling with others who are deprived. Try a random act of kindness and see how much joy it bring to you and not just the one who receives.

There is bliss in humanity and it’s up to you to find it.

  1. This reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Patch Adams. Robin Williams did something similar in the children’s wing of the hospital. I remember being moved to tears. And people are actually doing this on such a huge level! That is just remarkable! Thank you for sharing. This word needs to spread! The bliss needs to spread!
