Connect with Children

My grandfather used to say that children are another form of God. The purity in their hearts reflects in the innocence of their eyes and if you are looking for peace and what real stress free life is, you can only find it on a toddler’s face. To add to it, childhood is also the best phase of life. One where no child has to worry about any little thing. Their parents or loved ones are always there to hold their hand at every step and ensure that they stay safe. Every parent wants to ensure that their child is fed the healthiest, goes to the best school, wears the best dress and plays with the best toys. What ever be the means, parents leave no stone unturned to fulfil the needs, desires and demands of their child.

However, not every one can afford an upbringing of the best quality and it all boils down to the haves and the have-nots. The children of the under privileged do not get to see a luxurious life, they do not have new clothes to wear everyday and they do not have toys to play. I have seen children of construction workers playing with sand and not even a piece of cloth on their bodies. Have you ever seen a child of a well-to-do family even put their hands in the red sand that used to make buildings? Never, right? What can this worker and his wife do? Either they can leave work to keep an eye on the baby or they can focus on the work to earn their daily bread. It’s a hard choice and we all know what they pick.

The stats about India according to A Heart for India are alarming. There are close to 20 million street children in India out of which 100,000 are in Bangalore. This is the city known as the silicon valley of India and this is one where so many people find livelihood. But still, we fail to help these little children on our streets. However, not everything is as dark. There is a ray of hope that begins from your house and can light up the house of an under privileged.  Sounds pretty promising, isn’t it? Well, it did to me when I heard of Apollo Cradle Foundation’s (an Apollo Cradle initiative) Toy Donation Drive. With a hope in heart to touch lives and and to extend joy in all families of Bangalore, this initiative aims to collect toys for children below 5 years of age from parents and children who are willing to gift these to lesser privileged children.

If you are a parent reading this and you are in Bangalore or you have friends and families in Bangalore, please share this information. Let this Children’s Day be different for your own child where he/she will learn about the joy of sharing. All that you have to do is, find a collection center closest to your place and walk in to share joy between this Children’s Day 14th November and 15th December. Sharing is Caring and this drive will make you go that extra mile, not just for your child but for the children of Bangalore. Do not wait for a big opportunity to make a difference. The time is NOW! Get ready to connect with children this Children’s Day!
