Happy Onam, everyone!
It’s that time of the year again when floral carpets, food, and happiness adorns the house of every Mayalayee. Onam is one of those rare festivals which is celebrated by a state. How beautiful is the thought that no religion or caste can come in between the festivities! Each of the ten days leading up to Onam has its own significance and importance.
While Onam marks the harvest season, the homecoming of King Mahabali at this time of the year is a reminder that people should respect and love each other without any biases of caste and creed. That goodness of the heart wins over every vice and that human beings exist to support and take care of each other. Add to the belief, the angle of pookalams. The beauty of fresh flowers and the transient nature of the lives.
To show you pookalams from this year, let’s pass on the baton to LP who diligently makes one for each day. Also, these are from her own house.

For the third time in a row, I am happy that I was able to show you all these lovely Pookalams. Leetha, thank you for sharing this festival with all of us here.
These are absolutely splendid! What a lovely tradition to continue on your blog, Parul 🙂

They are gorgeous. Red and yellow are such lovely colours. And do each of them have names? This is unfamiliar territory for me.

The patterns is like art. The names are like we have in Navratras. Name of the day. But yes, each day has a significance. Thank you, Tulika!

Beautiful Pookalams. I wasn’t aware of the 10 days leading up to Onam and I appreciate your inclusion of the sequencing of the days. Reminds me of the 9 days of Navaratri and the 10th morning.
