C for Can I do it? #AtoZChallenge

I can..
I can..

A couple of years ago, VT attempted to walk 100 kilometers in 48 hours. That sounded overwhelming at the start and even during the challenge but as I came to see it first hand, it was not an impossible feat. Do you know what encouraged the team to finish the challenge?

The belief that they CAN do it.

Our mind is powerful. So powerful that we exactly do what our mind tells us. If you throw your hands up in the air, there is no chance you can complete what you had set out for. However, if you take mini steps, think through what you are gunning for and then keep moving in the right direction, you will be set up for success.

How do you think athletes break their own records? By practicing and then by believing in their capabilities.

Something that works for me is taking small steps. One day at a time and going slowly without worrying about my pace. It’s okay to be slow but it’s not okay to jump to conclusions that something is not your cup of tea. Have you got a tip for me?

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.

  2. Yes, the mind is powerful. I think a day at the time, small steps, small goals, celebrating each little milestone, victory is the key…. Lovely post, Parul dear:-)

  3. That’s a lovely lesson, actually. We can do anything we put our minds to, provided we work hard of course. I saw this lovely TED talk on the importance of grit and why it is necessary that we work hard to achieve something and that’s the true secret of success. Will see if I can find the link.

  4. Visiting from A-Z challenge. Appreciate the encouragement – I’m struggling to believe I can do this challenge with all the rest of life going on around me. Your post is timely – I can do it if I believe I can! Thanks for that!

  5. The kind of self motivation that one athletes have is unbelievable… Yes, to reach higher goals, we need to believe first that we can. I remember reading your 100 km post… That’s quite a feat by V😀

  6. The problem of putting ones mind to something comes when we have a choice of not doing it at all…. Otherwise if we had a necessity for something to get done we would not think about putting our mind to it… We would not have a choice at all… Thats the approach we must take… You walk a few steps today or you trip and fall it does not matter…. You keep going as you don’t have a choice 🙂

  7. Thaks true. Its the mind that dictates us, telling us what’s possible and what’s not. But getting our mind to believe mAY seem a Herculean task, but well its not impossible.

  8. 100km?! Ooooook! I’m not sure if I could do it (oh dear God, does admitting that go against the essence of the post?? Forgive me!)
The thing is, determination and willpower are both important, but this little thing called self-doubt keeps resurfacing every time I tell myself I can do something. Will work on that!

  9. You can do anything you want to do as long as you “want” to! The mind is a powerful tool and once it is set on something nothing can stop one. But yeah, it is important to set realistic expectations and goals.

VT walked a 100kms in 48 hours? Let’s talk about this when we meet.

  11. RIght Parul, everything starts in mind. But still 100kms is a lot. I ran for 5 kms and I was drained out. I believe what we should talk about it often, the thing we aim for.

  12. Our mind does wonders! And it is mostly the mental barrier that we have which curbs us from doing so many things we like!

I like the tip and the positivity in the post, Parul!

  13. I definitely think that we have to have a CAN DO attitude. If you go through life thinking that you are going to fail, then you probably are! It is a balance though for sure! Loved your post!

  14. What worked for me is persistence. I kept doing the same thing, just slowly getting better as the days and years went by. Finally when an opportunity came, I found I won because I was ‘better prepared’ than anyone else.

  15. Very well said Parul. Taking small steps towards our focus makes great difference. I too believe in living one day at a time. Uncertainties in life has taught me this mantra. In the most difficult way and in the most difficult times though but I keep taking baby steps. I would rather reach my destination late than give up half way.

Thanks for the inspiring post. 🙂 Cheers!

  16. The belief that you can will surely take you places. Right now, the only thing that’s bothering me is the fact that I may not be able to give my 100% to the AtoZChallenge. But you know what? After reading this post, I feel that maybe I can. If I stop thinking about all the reasons why I could fail, I will surely make every day of April a success. This is just what I needed to read today, Parul! 🙂

  18. I completely agree with you. You can do whatever you set your mind to. I think small steps in the right direction are the way to go as well. Something that often helps me when things seem hard is remembering challenges from the past and reminding myself that I made it through those. If I could do it then, I can do it now!
