Dinner Date with Arnab Goswami

At my place, Vikas and I get together on dinner dates with Arnab Goswami. So, when the clock hits 9 PM, Times Now airs the Newshour Debate and we are regulars to the show. Well, all those who are interested in current affairs and are up to date with what’s up with India know who Arnab Goswami is. For those who don’t, Wikipedia will tell you more! For those, who want to know Arnab better, please get on to Times Now today!!

Coming over to who is Arnab –  He is a well-read journalist, Editor-in-chief and a news anchor at Times Now, an Indian news channel. On this show that I am talking about, he is almost a household name and is known for his tough interviewing skills – he won’t let you blabber or beat around the bush. If you don’t answer his question the way he wants, you are gone! He can get aggressive, ask tough questions, stay on the point, be focused, yell and repeat the question as many times as he wants without even a trace of reluctance. Be it ideological, political, emotional, practical – he knows his way and how to best get his participants to talk or sometimes annoy them to the extent that they end up talking what they shouldn’t or even walk out of the show. He is the angry young man of Indian Media! Beware!

His style is also the reason for a number of spoofs, jokes and comic strips that do round on the internet. There are funny ones like how Arnab can ask 23 questions in response to every question that is asked to him, how his maid fainted when he asked her 23 questions on why she did not turn up for work and the one below that I find really hilarious:

Recently, I read this over internet and thought I too could take a shot at expanding the A to Z for Arnab Goswami :

A: Arnab..

B: But Arnab..

C: Can I come now Arnab??

D: Do I get a chance to talk Arnab?

E: Excuse me Arnab!

F: F**K you Arnab ……(this is how the participants feel)

L: Let me complete Arnab..

N: No No Arnab..

O: One minute Arnab, listen to me..

P: Please Arnab – let me complete

The list can go on and on..

Personally, I really admire news anchors like Karan Thapar and Prannoy Roy for their style of journalism. Devil’s Advocate is one of Karan’s many shows and I believe he has the knack of asking the most direct questions in the most polite and humble manner possible. Prannoy is one of the pioneers of how English journalism and news anchoring has shaped today. For me, Arnab comes across as too direct and hard at times. Though I do enjoy the way he is tough with people who fake ideas and patriotism, I prefer to differ. He is well researched and this shows he has a great team in place so that every day he can deliver his best. He is good and there is no doubt about this. He is presently the only news anchor who can grill any political leader and India needs journalists like him. All in all, the show is a complete entertainment package. It has information, humor, satire, and of course talks openly about issues that should bother a common man.

Hate him or love him – Arnab doesn’t want to know. Only the Nation wants to know! 😀

  2. Surprised to see you are admiring such a moron who is wholly anti-india. He does not represent the nation and does not have the right to say “The Nation Wants To Know”. The Italian Robertio Mindo who has a share in the Times-Now group is a close relative of Sonia Gandhi. Everybody knows, the topics are chosen by his masters who work to promote Fake Gandhi family. All these english news channels are owned and funded by churches, communists and anti-india groups. Moron-Arnab has truly become the symbol of the terrible disease that has inflicted our news media.

  3. Arnab is aggressive. He does not always gets the answer. He jumps to another guest if the answer he is getting is not to his liking. Arnab certainly catches politicians if they move away from their previous position. Most disgusting interview is with Pakistani establishment. The whole show becomes a slanging match. Nothing much comes out. Arnab is a sledgehammer compared to Prannoy Roy or say Barkha Dutt.

  4. Arnab Goswami does not the difference between 2G and 3G.
    SS and Msteel
    Diamonds and rocks.
3G which works like lightning and 2G which takes minutes
To him it might as well be 0G
    Oh jee!

  5. I feel his is the only show that i can tolerate to look for a debate over newshour. Yes he is blunt, and those who calls him associated with congress have definately not watched the show regularly. he is not shy of asking the most obvious questions, that everybody knows as a open secret and tries to dig out a response from the panelist.

    1. Oh yes Nandini! I totally agree. He is indeed courageous and no one else in the world of journalism has called a Spade a Spade in front of their face. So, I am pretty impressed with that. My post is an old one now. Thank you for sharing your post. I will read it. 🙂

  7. Ha ha Parul… I like your signing off line -” ….Arnab doesn’t want to know only Nation wants to know”
I’m not a fan of his “intolerant” journalism. But I am an ardent fan of the individual Arnab for following his passion. As you said he doesn’t care about what people say.
