House Vs. Home

house (noun)a building in which people live

home (noun)the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered

The difference between a house and a home is pretty evident. When I got my first job, I stepped out of the hostel life and paying guest accommodations. That was the first time I had to look out for a place where I would pay the rent and maintain it as my own. A place that though not literally mine, would be mine till I decide to move out. This was almost a decade back and somebody close shared this piece of advise. He asked me to finalize a place that I would be happy to come to after a long day’s work. It does not matter whether the place is in a plush society or an average neighborhood. It’s about what kind of a house makes one comfortable.

I haven’t moved many places since then and currently I am staying in a small apartment that just appropriate for the two of us. However, the advice was followed. I love coming back to this place that I call my home. The warmth and the energy it entails lifts me up at any time of the day. I am just a tenant but I still feel that this is mine.

When I was growing up, we had a small poster at home that read,

“Whether you live in a big city or a community of homes,

the real life is within..”

This post is a response to the Day 1 of Daily Post’s Photography 101 and today’s theme is Home.

I am participating in National Blog Posting Month – NaBloPoMo, and this is Post #3, a pledge to write daily during November to hone my skills, challenge myself, and taking this blog to the next level. Wish me luck and share ideas that you would want to read 🙂
