Today #1000Speak for compassion and so do I

1000Voices_zps11edff99

They say that the Universe listens and today I feel it did listen to what my heart and mind were set at. None of us can imagine the pain of daughters and sisters being kidnapped who will never be back home again. We cannot imagine what it means when an innocent young girl is strapped to a bomb that is set to blow up one of the crowdest streets killing her and thousands more innocent souls. We cannot imagine the extent of violence people like us go through every single day. We have become so intolerant that cartoons can excite us to kill others. So many acts of terrorism in the name of religion happen around us and away from us that sometimes it feels that love and compassion exist no more. No one is spared – men, women or children! Just no one.

This morning while I was sipping my tea and checking mails, I saw a hashtag that was used by the awesome bloggers I follow – #1000Speak and I immediately started looking up what it is all about. Yes, today, February 20, 2015 is the day when as Yvonne posted, 1000 more than 1000 bloggers are writing posts about compassion, kindness, support, caring for others, non-judgement etc. We are all calling it 1000 Voices For Compassion.

What Compassion means?

Wikipedia says “Compassion is the emotion that one feels in response to the suffering of others that motivates a desire to help. Compassion is really the act of going out of your way to help physical, spiritual, or emotional hurts or pains of another.”

In my words, compassion is love and care for others.

Why Compassion?

Compassion makes life meaningful. Compassion is gift and it is something you can’t hold to yourself. The more you give, the richer you get. Compassion makes you humble and appreciate the life you have been blessed with. Compassion also drives the noble deeds all around the world which help others. Compassion is God’s way of saying “I will help you through someone else”

Do I see compassion around?

That was a leading question? Wasn’t it? All of us experience various random acts of compassion at work, at home, on the streets, in buses and almost every where around. Sometimes, we are involved in one and sometime we witness the other. I believe that big opportunities to help others seldom come but small ones surround us every day.

  • VT and I sponsored our guard’s daughter’s education when she was to start school.
  • Whenever my help makes noodles at home, I ask her to take home a box. Which kid doesn’t like noodles?
  • MS once nurtured and took care of two baby squirrels when they were abandoned. She fed them, cleaned them and played with them.
  • Letting people open up to you and keeping their secrets safe is an act of compassion
  • Sharing chocolates with kids around is another one
  • Helping elderly cross street and opening the door for someone with a lot of shopping bags is something a lot of us do
  • Painting the wall of a school and participating in a library renovation
  • Teaching kids of nearby area
  • Caring for others
  • Helping co-workers finish an important task so that they meet the deadline

These are all examples of compassion in our day-to-day life. Without compassion, we all would be robots and not humans. Now when the Universe has listened to me in the form of this prompt, I pledge to keep up social blogging and also never let compassion within me die. In my own little way, this is my tribute to the many victims of violence all around the world.

There Are Ways
To Get There
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
Make A Better Place…

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race

I am participating in an initiative by Yvonne Spence and Lizzi Rogers who are the souls behind the 1000 Voices for Compassion #1000Speak movement happening today on February 20, Friday. Read Yvonne’s post to know more.

Stay Compassionate!
