#MicroblogMondays – Yoga will bring down rapes

Today’s hot topic had to be this statement by a senior BJP leader who very thoughtfully said, “If yoga comes into the life of common people, it will help in bringing down incidents of rape in the country”. This statement brought back the memories of many other such great remarks by learned Indian men like “Eating chowmein leads to rape  or use of cell phone invites a rape.” There will be a day when women will be told that watching television, working full time and even breathing may invite rape.

I just want to ask one thing.

What would it take for you people (men/women included) to stop making such baseless statements and start doing something that helps prevents crime against women. Your strict actions against the perpetrators is much much more important than practicing Yoga.

  1. I think he meant to say…that by doing yoga men will have control over their senses 😉

Our politicians unfortunately sail in the same boat as Rakhi Sawant who calls the AIB Roast as chitting so, gotta first pause and try to analyze their upcharans 🙂

  2. Parul! Bravo that you brought this up. It is really sad that the ones governing the country are the ones making such lame statements. Is there any point blaming the people when the supposed-to-be heads of the country are like this?
Or are they trying to grab some attention?
How ridiculous can comments get? :O

  3. Hmm I think maybe he meant that yoga would help calm and relax minds of the individuals. But the problem with such statements is that the basic causes of rapes and such incidents are neglected and no one really cares to provide basic security to women day in and day out.

    1. Yes – I agree, he would have meant that. But just imagine how unsafe people are here. Every other day, somebody is raped and killed, body found with external objects. What happened to Nirbhaya case culprits? Hanged? Nope – another 10 years it might take..There is no security, no quick justice..

      1. True Parul, can surely understand where you coming from. Sadly, cases like these remain in the public limelight until the next one happens or the media takes interest. Otherwise the victims just suffer and the criminals roam scot free :(.
