Yesterday, as I was going through my FB timeline, I came across Shailaja‘s post on #100sareepact and as soon as she shared more details, I was all set to take it up.
The idea generators are Anju & Ally and what started as a personal conversation is now a talk in women circles across India and even abroad. The pact is about wearing sarees 100 times by the end of 2015 and why? Well, Saree is a traditional India attire worn in almost all of the states of India and in varied styles. Over a period of many years, women moved towards dressing of convenience and sarees have being left lying in closets wishing to be pulled out for special occasions, poojas, parties or ethnic days at work.
With this 100 saree day pact, there will be social media timelines flooded with women telling a tale about the saree they are wearing and what it means to them. In a way, it will be a grand comeback to this elegant way of dressing and for a change I will not be asked “What’s special?”
Men too can join by talking about saree, hash-tagging us and supporting women in their lives or like VT, they can click pics 🙂

Fabulous! I’m so glad you took it up. What a great idea for #MicroblogMonday! Well done 🙂

That is a pretty pic of you in the saree Parul.
I love to see my mother in sarees. She looks beautiful in them even at the age of 58.
But I have to admit I am not a fan of wearing sarees. The last time I wore it was on my son’s first birthday and that was almost 4 years back. They involve too much of an effort in maintaining them, ironing them, wearing them and off course carrying them. I cannot carry a saree and my confidence levels take a dip. I am too happy with my salwaar suits.

Yeah – I can understand. Cos we are not used to wearing it, we dont feel as much comfortable. But pushing us, is also another way to look at it 😉
Thank you for stopping by 🙂

Since I live in the US, I neither own a lot of sarees, nor wear them. However, I am absolutely enjoying the pictures that keep popping on my timeline. Makes me want to buy some during the upcoming India trip. 🙂

Awesome, you look smashing! Mashallah (please don’t be offended at my Muslim way of warding evil eye). And a great initiative of honoring and preserving the tradition. Here in Pakistan, many ethnicties have many negative mindsets for saris because I have Indian roots, we still try to hold on hard to wearing saris, usually during our weddings, many women within family get to wear saris, my sisters stopped wearing sari as their husbands dislike this border ke us par ka libaas owing to the fact that they are not Muhajirs/ Urdu speakings… I wear it despite the loud grumbling! LOL!
I want to see more of you in saris, now!! very excited!!! 🙂 🙂
