No, I am not talking about the chemistry lab experiments that can turn solutions pink when you mix them for 10 seconds or purple for 15 seconds. I am talking about those little experiments we do or can do to make our life more meaningful. You got it right! Not successful or extraordinary but just like you wanted or what you believed in by following your passion or having faith in that little spark that’s within you.
The Ada Initiative was started by two women who believed that open technology and culture is not well represented by women and female representation in the open source and software community stands at a mere 2%. Today, AdaCamps are a well known unconferences for women all over the world and they get women together to talk about many things on open technology and culture. Biocon, was the brain child of a woman. Today, the organization is a leading player in bio-medical research. Lakme, the well known cosmetics brand in India came into existence cos of a woman popularly known as the Cosmetic Czarina of India. There are tons of examples of women who believed in themselves and went ahead to follow their hearts. I can go on and on and share many more but today is not about that too.
Today is about experimenting and pursuing what your heart wants. So what if women are judged by performance and men by potential? So what if the corporate jobs don’t work for you? Many have left a well paying white collared job to take up traveling the world or writing. Many have started their own ventures and are providing food not just their family but many others. So what if you don’t want to study Mathematics or Biology? Take up what brings a smile to your face and it could be photography or arts. So what if writing emails is not your forte? Try organic farming and give your green thumb a nudge. Just Experiment!!
Experiment with life and know that today will not come tomorrow. A little risk here and there will not take away the love of those who love you or care for you. Following your passion will make you richer by experiences if not by bank balance. Setting an example will make your life meaningful and successful in your own eyes. And I believe that we need to keep raising the bar.
I am blogging from A to Z during April (#473 on the list) and the theme I have chosen is set on women. Some of the posts will be here for you to know and some will be to reflect and accept. Share your thoughts and let me know how things are going. There is always a room for improvement.
I don’t think corporate jobs work for anyone… 😀 Inspiring post!

Good advice and a philosophy I try to live by. I would never have moved to the other side of the world if someone hadn’t have told me that I would only regret the things I didn’t do not the things I did… 🙂

Great advice! I don’t know if I would call it an experiment, but I quit my job of ten years to go to graduate school with no idea where the degree, once finished, would lead me.

Thanks Brandy! I would say it’s never too late. I too once quit my job to go back to college and it worked well 🙂

I love your post today Parul as if circumstances were different, I would consider experimenting with several of my dreams, organic farming (for a bit) being one of them! 🙂 ❤

Thanks Elly and I am also trying a bit of organic farming with just 2 pots – one with tomato seeds and the other with green chilles. The point I am trying to make is that start small but do what you want to do a little bit everyday 🙂 ❤

I gave up my corporate job to take a break, to learn new things and just give myself a break. And I think it has worked wonderfully for me. I feel refreshed and now I want to go back to my work with a zest that I never had before. It’s good to experiment and explore.

I have never had a typical corporate job and to be truthful I sometimes feel I have missed the ‘bus’. Yet when I see the number of things that I can and am doing and choices I can make, I know I am on the right track. Great post. 🙂

I completely agree that men are judged by their potential and women by their performance. Things are changing now, however a drastic change will require a complete shift in mindset. Nonetheless, what you said is very true. We can either complain about the situation or work towards what we are passionate about and make our own mark. This is the best line I came across today * Following your passion will make you richer by experiences if not by bank balance. Thanks for sharing, Parul. 🙂
