There is a lot to be thankful for in life, yet we are not. We complain, we fail to appreciate little things and then wonder why am I not happy? I read Rhonda Bryne’s The Secret some two years back and since then the desire to create a Gratitude List was on my mind. This book talks about the power of affirmation, attracting positivity in your life by staying positive and being grateful among a lot of other things. I should confess that I never brought my thoughts to actions until last week when I saw many blogging buddies posting their individual gratitude lists.
I have been really inspired by and Vidya Sury’s Gratitude Circle and Laurel Regan from Alphabet Salad when it comes to writing Gratitude Lists. Before I take on my first ride they deserve a mention and yes, I am grateful to them for inspiring many like me! Thank you Corinne, Vidya and Laurel!
So, here’s what I am going to do – on last day of each month, I will publish a Gratitude List and share my happy moments with you all. Yes, there will be pictures and happiness. If you get some food for thought, do let me know!
When you really want to do something, the Universe starts throwing hints and shows you the path. I had the same experience with the Gratitude Lists. So, in no particular order, here are the lovely things that happened during May 2015:
- Exactly on May 1, a fellow blogger who blogs at The Human Lens, asked me to share my thoughts on Sabeen Mahmud’s assassination. While I shared my thoughts with her, we became good friends who think alike on many issues. Getting featured on her blog was a matter of great pride for me. You can read that post here.
- I love the rainy season and watching when it pours. This month, Bangalore had some heavy showers. As I write this, it is raining outside. When dark clouds fill the sky, the trees get watered, the roads are washed, the temperatures dip, my balcony plants get their share of natural water, they look more green and that lovely smell all around fills my heart.
- My Mum had a cataract surgery and it went well. I was a little scared and worried for her but she did great and it was a success. When she comes home, I will ask her if I look slimmer and prettier 😉
- My Yoga classes are going well. After a lazy April, I managed to do 13 classes in May and that feels great. Some form of physical workout is good and I feel this will eventually strengthen my back. These classes are helping me get back to a fitter self and I am enjoying it. I am also cycling to my Yoga classes and that’s cherry on the cake. The distance is small but I like cycling and braving the morning traffic. May be I can now think of learning to drive.
- VT and I completed 9 years of love this May. Sometimes, I cannot believe that he is the guy I am sharing my life with. It’s a great feeling of togetherness!
- I captured a great shot of the sky while on my ride home this month and I can’t stop feeling good about it. I don’t have a big camera but when I got this shot right, I felt that sometimes we don’t need a perfect gadget to capture a moment. It just happens when it has to.
- My green chilli plant has started flowering and I am looking forward to see baby chillies in another week or so. When I bought the seeds and had sown them, I was so eager to see them turn to saplings and today they are standing tall ready to give me some fruits. Ah! the joys of hard work and patience.
- My #100SareePact is going well. I am 28 down, 72 more to go. My parents are coming over in June and I am waiting for the new sarees and some great time with them. Talking of sarees, a friend from US is sending me one via her Mum and another friend’s Mum is getting me a saree. I’m so loving the attention! It’s raining sarees in my wardrobe and I am overjoyed!
- My little godchild has finally got used to the day care and I am feeling comfortable with that. She now cries less and plays more. She is now 8 month old and soon she will start recognizing me. Her Mum is finally back to work and that makes me feel women are capable of so much.
- I did my first fish shopping this month and I will tell you why it was so unique. When I was growing up, I never went to buy fish or meat. So, I have zero experience in that field. Till date, I was ordering online but this month I realized that if I can get fresh fish so close to my place, I should do it myself. So, I went to this shop and bought my first 500 g of Sear Fish. I could have asked my Mum/Dad about what to buy and how to cook but I did all on my own. Google was my savior.
- I also watched Tanu Weds Manu yesterday and if you are a regular here, you know me. I watch movies once a year and last was good one year back. As VT was busy, GK and I went for our movie date. What a fantastic movie it was! If you haven’t watched it yet, please just go. You will not regret!
Wow! That is some list! I am sure there were many other moments of joy and being grateful to , but for May, I sign off here. Hope you like my first Gratitude List. If you are already maintaining one, do share. Until the next time, be grateful!

Congratulations my friend for posting your first gratitude list. M sending you lots of positivity. Dhruv and I are enjoying the thunderstorms too standing in the balcony and watching the strong winds sweep off everything and feeling rains on our faces. And Tanu weds Manu returns was the movie that I was too grateful for watching in my list. We will meet again in the same space next month.

As they say it is impossible to feel gratitude and anger at the same time, so makes sense to pick gratitude over anger. Thanks for reminding Parul.

I’ve been planning to start writing these Gratitude Lists for a month now! I wonder when it will really happen! What is the circle about? And is there a fixed day we share this list? Is it like a linkup or something? Is there a Facebook page for it?

Vidya and Corinne call it Gratitude Circle and they open the link up on 4th Thursday of each month. You can share your post there. There is no Facebook page but another blogger Laurel From Alphabet Salad also hosts these kinky for gratitude posts. You can choose your own cadence. I will do it once a month on the last day. I have also seen Elly do it weekly. Depends on how you like it 🙂 it’s a great way to really write down things that have gone well.. And I believe if we are grateful these good things will come back 🙂

These gratitude lists are so awesome. Just a little way to show that simple things in life matter so much :). Good to know that your mom’s operation went well.
