The Wheel of Emotions

Robert Plutchik, a professor and psychologist created Wheel of Emotions, depicting different emotions with varying intensity. His model to decode emotions is one of the most influential among all theories. This model describes how emotions are related.

There are eight basic emotions – Joy, Trust, Fear, Surprise, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Anticipation.

These eight are basic emotions and opposites – joy versus sadness; anger versus fear; trust versus disgust; and surprise versus anticipation.

The eight primary emotions can be expressed at different intensities – intense joy is ecstasy and mild anger could be annoyance. Primary emotions when mixed, form different emotions – joy and trust is love and the opposite is remorse.
