#FridayReflections – Looking beyond the obvious

It was a lovely morning and we were on a walk. Sometimes, when I do not wake up on time for Yoga, VT and I grab that opportunity to walk together and spend some time talking through things that are not important. Our conversations range from new places to eat that fall in the loop of ‘I suggest-He ignores’ and his silly jokes that don’t make me laugh. The rules are that he carries the water bottle for me and I am with my phone so that I can click pictures, show off my photography skills and build a better case for an iPhone 6S.(now that the latest one is announced!)

So this one morning, when we were walking back, checking time and pacing up, I noticed that the shutters of two shops had some form of graffiti done. Bangalore is an art loving city as far as I see it. Sometimes it is genuine art, sometimes there are messages for public and sometimes art protects property from people vandalizing it. Weird reasons, I know! Now, this art appeared to be colorful and there was some pattern. It was done on a black background and hence the colors were enhanced. It looked beautiful but I could not figure out if it meant anything. I asked VT and he agreed that it was a random art. I clicked and moved on.

Later that day, when I was checking pictures, I saw this one from the morning and it immediately made sense. I could so clearly see the pattern and what it meant. Being able to derive sense out of the art also had a message for me and that’s what I want to share with you all. Technically speaking, this could have been the 3D to 2D effect as well but I am ignoring that for now.

Many times in life, we take things at their face-value. We see them as they appear right there in front of us. We don’t have the patience or the time to think beyond what’s obvious. I did the same thing. I had no time and I was rushing back so I clicked and moved on without waiting to notice if there were any letters hidden in the art. I did not wait to look deep in to what seemed random and ordinary.

Sometimes, in the hum drum of life, stop and look around. Get to the crux and see what is telling you what. Breathe deep and check if the air really gets to your lungs. Smile to see if you can do that from ear to ear. Notice what’s not obvious and smile at what’s not necessary. Sometimes you get the most warm reciprocation from a stranger. You will remember that 2 seconds of smile and that breath of fresh air that fills your lungs. Connect dots and see how the Universe conspires to get you, want you really want. Just look beyond the obvious!

VT and I went back again to check out the art but the shop owners had got it cleaned. I am guessing they also did not notice the beauty. We also observed that the artist(s) used the same word graffiti many times on the same stretch of the road at many places but could really complete it on this closed shop.

Whoever those people are, know that I loved your creativity and that’s why it is now here on this blog for #FridayReflections.

  7. I agree with you! My folks accuse me of looking too much beyond the obvious. I have photos of almost all the graffiti art around our area and they are highly amused at how I find a story in everything. And oh, I feel upset when something gets demolished!

    The best stress-reliever is a walk around our area with the camera! My favorite anyway! Looking forward to meeting you next time you are here.

  11. I pass by this place almost everyday and I’m surprised that I haven’t noticed anything like this until now.

    The graffiti is so beautiful and I’m shocked that the owners took it down. How much effort would have gone behind it. I’m glad you clicked an image and sharing it with us. The artist would be beaming ear to ear if he knows this 🙂

    1. Thank you! You know what Soumya, this was just for a couple of hours. I am sure it was done late night and take off when the shop owners must have come to work. Cos I have been going again and again to that place to check out but it’s all gone. Also, check the 12th main wall, bang opposite the sony shop. It’s just the PEA, in outlines but nothing else. Cos that was on the main road and BBMP doesn’t care, it is still there.

  12. Peace. Beautiful thought expressed even more beautifully.. Sometimes we do tend to look beyond the obvious and simply jump to conclusions.. if only we had the time and patience to think of all the aspects!
