Not just color the world but Orange the world again in 2015.

25th November is marked as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Violence against women starts at home. It takes the horrible shape of domestic abuse, rape by someone who is close, marital rape, forced marriages, abortions, pregnancies and much more than imagination. Under the pretext of societal shame, most of these cases are hidden and never come to light and that hurts women the most. Knowing that someone who brought hard times is living a carefree and happy life is painful.

25th November also sets the date for the start of 16 Days of Activism that runs up to the Human Rights Day on December 10th.

These 16 days are to focus on spreading awareness and get more action around the cause. Not the say that we sit tolerant for the rest of the year but to say that the focus during these 16 days is to call for action and make more people like you get involved to support the cause.

Join the campaign and you can also organize Orange events in your neighborhood. Simple efforts like talking about the cause, stopping and reporting gender based violence and standing up for what’s right are little steps that go a long way.In a fun way, you can also change your profile picture on social media to talk about the issue.

I am going to turn things orange from November 25th. Will you join me?

For Day 19 of  NaBloPoMo and NoMo, I am spreading awareness about prevention of gender based violence. You can read more about the initiative here.

  1. I had not heard of this until now – and I thank you for telling me about it. Whether or not it will change the hearts of those who victimize women is another matter – I can only hope it has some effect.

  2. Absolutely didn’t know about this either! A big thank you for sharing. Violence against women is something we all responsible citizens strongly feel about. And it pinches the heart all the more, as a woman.
