How would you react to being called beautiful?

You are beautiful!

Would you blush or would you smile?

Would you get angry or would you laugh it out?

Would you get emotional cos no one ever told you this before?

Would you find this goofy?

Six months ago, a 18 year-old, Shea Glover took up a social experiment. She sought permission from her school and started clicking pictures of people in her campus for an undisclosed project. She knew some but most of the people were strangers. While clicking pictures, she told them “I am taking pictures of things I find beautiful”.

The reactions of all those people who were told this have been captured raw in the video and those are genuine, heart warming responses. From smiles to tears and from surprise to disbelief, these emotions are as real as they could get.

While watching the video, all I could think of was that people have so many false notions about things like beauty that when told on the face, most of them are taken by surprise. Our society or may be we could say generation defines beauty by standards that are fake and superficial. We need to get above all that and believe in the inner beauty. The one that can be felt and not just seen.

I also felt that if anyone of us could do a similar experiment in any other corner of the world, we would get to see the same emotions.

The message and the intent of this video is clear – beauty has not got any one single definition. It’s in the heart and our minds.

How would you react to being called beautiful?

I missed Sunday Punch for three consecutive Sundays. Life just came in between but it’s back now and this time you will love the video message. Writing for Sunday Punch #51

  2. It depends on who is calling me beautiful. If its a line – I roll my eyes and ignore it.
Usually, I say thank you or state that they are being sweet.

But, the compliment always makes me smile. 😀
