This weekend, we made a quick road trip to Hampi in North Karnataka.
On Day 1, we walked up a hill-top and sat there watching the Sun set. Since then, this thought that has been on my mind and doesn’t seem to go away.
What if every day I had a chance to watch the Sun set and walk around looking at the heritage sites, discovering something new and unique?
How would it be if there was no crazy rush to get things done at work or at home?
What if I was not tied to the time of the day and I could do what ever I want at any time?
What if I never had to go back to where I come from?
Writing for #MicroblogMondays today. Also tagging this to Mundane Monday #46
ahh, so many what ifs! no matter how much i may complain of my daily routine, i readily admit that without it, i may fall apart. work, the kids, taking care of the home; these things keep me grounded. and they possibly keep me from falling into the spiral of dissatisfaction, discontent.. and many other things!

You are right in a way. We keep going cos we need to keep going. If not – may be there will be too much calmness to handle.

Sigh, I know what you mean. Every single day as I wind down for the night, my mind flits to a place where there is only serenity, peace and no noise and I wish to go away there. Then I realise, day in day out, that might bore me. I need my pace at life here so I can savour the quiet when I get it. Into every life, a little chaos and a little calm must fall.

Well said. It’s like the Yin and the Yang of life. Thank you Shailaja 🙂

Believe you me you’d get bored. We hang on to our old lives not because we have no option but because secretly that’s what we are comfortable with. And besides when you do something novel every day, it fails to remain novel doesn’t it? But it’s nice to dream and wonder what it would be to really run away….

Ha ha! That’s a good point. Novelty would then become the normal 😉 Thank you for stopping by!

I’ll mirror what Shailaja said – no matter how hectic or chaotic everything is, we need to find that ‘quiet’ moment sometimes. Actually once a day to keep hold of our sanity, I’d say.

Yeah – I agree. Some time for ourselves to keep up with the chaos around us.

I think about this more and more as I approach retirement age. My answer, right now, is that I am not ready to have an entire day full of quiet and peace (but ask me that again in about an hour, when I am at work!)

Ha ha! Yeah – I agree. When we get what we want, we then want something else. The goal keep changing. isn’t it?

Funnily that is exactly what I think when I travel. One thought that goes in circles, will not come back from here… and that is how I can cut off from everything.

Yeah – that’s a good way to look at it. Live cos it may never come back.

My friend used to live like that. She worked for a few months and then spent 8 months or so traveling. Or reading books. Or just going on beautiful walks. And while it sounds lovely, I wonder if at some point you would take that for granted, too. That you would stop noticing the gorgeous sunsets when you knew you had the time to just sit and stare at it every day.

I wish I had a life like that. You may be right – when it becomes a part of life on a daily basis, it may fade out as exciting.

Hmmm…A good reflection. You know what? I’m lucky to actually have these choices – but don’t always make take the opportunity!

Oh you should Corinne. I wish I had the chance. Sometimes, I want to live in the mountains or watch a river flow every day.

Now these are the similar questions I asked my father many years back when we were returning to the hot plains fron Manali. And he said that you are able to appreciate the beauty of this place and these mountains because this is not your daily life and routine. If you get settled here, you will again get into routine life and you will never raise your head to see the beauty around because in that case it will be normal and ordinary.
I stay at home, have the flexibility to slot and prioritize my chores, rest time, reading etc yet today morning I woke up with the feeling what if I could get one day, a full 24 hours being all alone at home free from everything. See we are all the same.

Thanks Anamika for sharing. You know I have so much to run around mentally that I get exhausted and then these thoughts get a stronger foot. But I get what you are saying. 🙂

That is such a wonderful post Parul. Seriously.. And the photograph is so lovely.. So much of tranquility it reveals.. How all of us want to devour ourselves into such moments and never want to come out of them, don’t we?
Cheers

What a gorgeous photograph. I love the peace, and the love, and the specialness of that place. There are places in Maine where I feel that way…what if I could stay here forever and just soak up the peace and beauty all the time? I think though what makes that moment, that place, so special is that it is fleeting. It’s a moment to remember but maybe it wouldn’t be so special if it was your everyday reality. It’s a gorgeous snapshot in time, though!

You are right Jess. May be when it becomes an everyday affair, the peace and beauty become secondary.

I wouldnt call it mundane. It definitely is beautiful. And yes, life would be awesome if everyday we could watch sunset and go to amazing places like Hampi.

Your post got me thinking. We are all generally so busy in our lives that we forget to appreciate the beauty of simple things like watching the sunset, going for walks etc. It’s all about the rat race to make more money and be successful in our lives.

Very true. And I also feel that most of us never stop by to admire life or be grateful to all that has been bestowed upon us.

Wow what a memorable shot Thai one must be for you Parul. Who clicked it? And such deep, divine thinking around it❤️
Something deep within me tells me I love sunsets more than sunrises, but something also tells me I’m greedy for both 😊
I’m a big fan of the sun, moon and the stars like you. Sky watching has been a hobby though that’s taken a back seat with the city lights and pollution ridden air.
I grew up sky gazing.
Lots of love and positive vibes for both of you.
