I for It’s Your Fault #AtoZChallenge

It’s your fault is a satire on rape victim blaming. From what-to-wear to how-to-dress and from what-to-eat to how-to-address-your-attacker, this video went viral when it was released. Till date, it has gathered over 5 million and counting views on you-tube.

It is sad when rape survivors are blamed for what happens to them. Women do not provoke rape by any means. The mentality and thought process puts them at fault. Instead of creating a safe space for them, they are asked to stay indoors. Instead of putting the culprit behind the bars, the survivor has to confine herself.

It hurts to see how after a crime as serious as rape, a woman has to go through so much explaining that it wasn’t her fault.

Have a look at this 3.5 min long video and know that it’s never a woman’s fault.

  1. This is a heartbreaking reality that instead of pointing fingers at the criminals of such heinous crimes, the society indulges in victim blaming and victim shaming with words like “She must have encouraged the men.”
It is shameful to even think that a woman would ever encourage a crime so horrendous.

  2. Interesting. At first, I was worried when I just saw the title, but I assumed it was satire because you stand up for women. I don’t want to trigger myself so am not going to watch the video, but it’s a great initiative.

  3. Unfortuantely it is true. Many abusers dont even care about the other person and are so sick and nothing we do can encourage them. Hope this changes the attitudes of people who blame the girl.

  4. Well done Parul! I am so glad you took up this point. The perpetrators and law needs to understand this. There can be no loopholes such as these to let these predatory animals loose in society!

  5. Woah! The video is brilliant. Satire at its best.
We women are always blamed for no fault of ours, and thus it makes sense if we blame ourselves only instead. It’s a superb way of spreading this message..and it’s great that you shared it with your post!
I really hope this blame game stops, and we learn to co-exist, and exercise our right to a safe environment 🙂

  6. I remember sharing this video when it first came out… totally agree with the concept.. and sadly the fact that this backward mindset still exists. I know big well established doctors in my own circle who feel the same way sadly

  7. Thanks for sharing this video. It’s truly heartbreaking but that’s the sad truth. People blame the rape victims. It’s not because people are illiterate. It’s a shame!

  8. I’ve seen this video and it just broke my heart. I can’t believe women are still expected to justify themselves for every act they do or every act they are subjected to. It’s a sad state to be in.

  9. I remember seeing this video when it was just released. As a child,I used to think, ‘People go to school and colleges, they study, they become intelligent and society becomes better.’ Now ofcourse I know better. Education does little in reality. I personally know highly ‘educated’ individuals (doctors, lawyers, chartered accountants) who believe in every social evil out there as the ‘right’ or ‘moral’ thing to do/believe.

And when it comes to rape…do you know when that ”Nirbhaya” incident happened, a very close friend of mine (who is working in airlines industry, hobnobbing with Page 3 celebs every day, earning 7 figures monthly) said, ‘Better for her to die, her honor is gone, what will she do now being alive’ 😦 Yup, this is what she said, an ‘educated’, ‘liberated’, ‘modern’ 21st century woman while her mother, father and brother nodded vigorously in the background. What to do sigh
