It was a long hectic day.
I reached home and plugged in the laptop. I had been working non-stop since the morning. At home as well, the story was no different. There were unread emails, project updates and a lot of pending follow-up notes from the meetings I attended during the day, that needed my attention. I had already missed my usual evening routine which was very unusual. No ginger tea, no small talk with my plants and no inspection of the refrigerator to find something to eat. I don’t even remember what time I reached home. Yes, it was one of those days.
When I could no longer hear sounds from the open balcony behind me, I checked the time. It was late and time to stop. I had handled the priorities of the day and I knew the next day would be smoother. I reminded myself that work never ends and working smart was the call of the hour. With all that thought, I disconnected and shut my mind off from the happenings of the day.
Then, it was time to head to the kitchen. Now you know what it means to be a working homemaker. Okay, I digress.
As I rolled chapatis, I saw something from the kitchen window that made my day. It made me smile and for those few moments, I felt alive. I clicked many shots though none to perfection. For five minutes, I forgot how many more chapatis were yet to be rolled. I forgot how long my day was and the physical tiredness that had struck me.
When life throws curve balls at you, it is up to you to hit it off the park or duck it. You can choose to feel as you want. Either find joy in something little or spend the rest of the time sulking about how hard things are. Happiness, like they say is a choice and during those brief moments that day, I realized how true it was.
That beautiful full moon and that growing little twig of money-plant by my kitchen window were enough to make my day better.
They were in harmony – while one was shining brightly in the sky, the other was growing in the small bottle behind those dirty bars. While one was getting shadowed by the clouds, the other was holding the fort and spreading its wings.
These two did not let me reflect on my hectic day but merely by their presence, they shared an important lesson of life.

Writing for Yeah Write #276 today.
The kitchen window definitely is a place that brings in much positivity. Glad that it helped you get out of your hectic stressful day. Glad to be back on a reading spree after a long time.

As long as there is something that can make us connect, then the previous problematic mood will dissipate. (I felt similarly last night when a creative idea struck me after a day of feeling in a very low mood.)

You summed it well. Maybe it is a recency effect but it works.

I relate to this post. I am not that smart. Day ends but my work is still there, mocking me. I am bad at time management. Such things act as a much-needed break. A few days back I had the same divine intervention, it was a beautiful sunset spreading orange aura in my bedroom. I stopped and soaked in as much as I could.

That’s a lovely view and this is an awesome post. In our daily hustle and bustle, we forget to cherish the happiness associated with things around us. Working in a startup, I have not been able to go back home, with all things done, on any given day. However, I have started finding happiness in smallest things I see around which keeps me going. Like, today while walking down to the society gate, I saw a man carrying a colorful lunch box and the day started with a smile 🙂

Such a beautiful message from a simple sight! Sometimes we forget to see the goodness around us, being blinded by the exhaustion or worries. The night sky has always been one of my favourite mood boosters. Hope you’re more relaxed now. 🙂

Such a lovely post Parul….It is often these little things in life that make each day bearable, that make us feel alive and happy…….It is best to have a kitchen window….When my bhabhi (brother’s wife) got some house renovations done, she opted for a big window in the kitchen……That is the place she spends most of her day in…..so it is perfect to have a window there….it helps you so much to look out sometimes and lose yourself there….

I also feel that though I don’t spend that much of time in kitchen. I love windows. They are the entry to the outside world. Isn’t it?
