Our nameplate #CBF16

We wanted something simple. Something that defines us, lets us keep our identity as two different individuals yet brings us together under one roof. We wanted a simple nameplate for our rented apartment. No last names, no fancy house quotations but just us.

To call a house a home, you don’t need to have all the things set right at the start. The journey called marriage is one where you collect beautiful memories as you go along. They don’t come to you on your wedding day as gifts. As days turn to months and months to years, you both unknowingly pick up things that brighten the love you share.

All you both have to do is take one step at a time to:

  • Love each other with all your heart
  • Accept the differences and support each other
  • Share joys and sorrows
  • Be open to life’s twists and turns

Settling down together as a married couple is one of those first few steps. VT and I wanted to give our identity to the flat we rented. We both liked this new house and it was just like we wanted. We did not discuss how next years will look like in this place. Will we do well in life? Will the marriage work? We just knew this rented one bedroom apartment will be our home in years to come. This will be the place where we will watch movies, eat at least one meal together, talk our hearts out, laugh a lot, fight over silly things and be ourselves.

We knew the flat was not ours but as we start sharing our lives within the walls of this house, it would eventually become ours. So within a couple of days of settling in after the wedding, we were on a lookout for something that would suit our need and also be a reflection of our personalities. We wanted a nameplate.

No metal, no shiny stuff or stone carved antiques. We wanted modern and elegant. It was then when we bought what is still one of my most cherished objects at home. I still stay at the same place and if I ever move houses, this one will go along with me. It means a lot to us for what it brings to us.

This nameplate is us and makes our house, our home.

Our nameplate..
Our nameplate..

  1. I love these kind of name plates with just the names of the house inhabitants. Beautiful are your thoughts behind settling down in your house and making it a home. Co-incidentally my most cherished object is also an object which revolves around my home 🙂

  3. The idea of home is so personal and the nameplate literally leads the way into someone’s space. You’ve captured your idea of marriage and home so beautifully . and am so glad that I visited your page after a while even though I was catching up on your posts via my phone. but I love the makeover and the fresh new look.
wish you the best for the cherished blog fest .. you’ve been blogging so regularly and your posts just like this one are full of so much love & reflect so much of ‘you’ .. they make me happy 🙂

  4. I liked your creative nameplate very much. Though we bought the house 15 years ago, it still has to have a nameplate. Don’t interpret that I think that I am a celebrity living in the building and every one knows be. It has just been negligence on our part. How thoughtful on your part. It is not just a name plate but defines the personality of people living in it.

  5. I love this line in your post “unknowingly pick up things that brighten the love you share” 🙂 I like reading about what everyone’s “Cherished Object” is because it’s never something expected and for you, the fact that it’s something simple but meaningul, a nameplate, makes me smile. I’m sure this cherished object of yours will grace every entrance of every home you’ll live in for years to come 🙂

  6. Such a simple thing, yet such a powerful message. Together. That’s what you have chosen to be. Thanks for sharing this story with us. I also like the style of the nameplate, it implies that a fun and loving home lies beyond that door. Dan – cohost – #CBF16

  7. Aww I love that nameplate and I love the associated memories that go with it in your post. You’re so right that simple things define us so well. A piece of you and a piece of home in this one post. Beautiful.

  8. The nameplate looks beautiful. And it’s the simplicity that attracts me the most. The thing about marriage that you said, is so true. It’s all about collecting memories, joys and sharing laughter with each other that makes one, and not the gifts that come along!

    Cheers

  9. That is so lovely Parul! It indeed makes a house a home when loving people reside in it. Beautiful name plate too, better than mere house name.

  10. Great post, Parul. You’re not just simple, but romantic at heart and that shows in your posts. Well, all I can say is – Ghar deewaron se nahi, insaano se banta hain and it doesn’t matter whether the home is owned or rented. All that matters is you love Vikas and he loves you. Together you both make a lovely pair. I loved the nameplate. I have seen this hear in malls in the home department section and usually, I see nameplates that focus on last names like Malhotras, Oberois, Guptas, and so on. I like the first name concept you’ve adopted. As a co-host, I thank you for being the part of the Cherished Blogfest and I hope you’re having a great time meeting new and existing blog friends.
