What if you were a leaf..

What if you were a leaf..
What if you were a leaf..

What if you were a leaf on that road? Distant from your tree and no longer connected to your roots. It would have been hard to keep up with the pace of the wind. Fragile lives we all lead. We want to stay away yet stay connected. Most of us cannot manage the many Whatsapp groups and those good morning messages yet we like seeing the stream active with conversations. We read it all yet never reply.

What if you were a leaf on that road? Alone and waiting for someone to pick you up and keep you safe in between the pages of a book. Fragile lives we all lead. We can’t choose how our future is going to look like. We save for retirement yet the time is no longer on our sides. While we plan our days, He prepares us for things we haven’t thought.

What if you were a leaf on that road? Thinking of the days gone by and watching kids play. Fragile lives we all lead. How we want to grow up and then wish to become a kid again. As we look back, the many things we have left behind and how these things make us who we are. Our experiences, life stories, failures and then our environment.

What if you were a leaf on that road? Shining bright on that dark background. Standing out and making your presence felt. How we want to stand out but forget the need to stay humble. In our quest to succeed, how we forget the need to get others along and enjoy the journey. For that need to shine bright, we overlook the beauty within and focus on what appears on the outside. Fragile lives we all lead.

Stand out, but by the work you do.

Take pride in what you do and go to bed without any regret.

Prepare for rainy days but don’t forget to smile and enjoy.

Listen with an open mind and talk with your heart.

Fragile lives we all lead and it’s easy to miss the big picture in life. What if you were a leaf on that road?

  1. This ‘Prepare for rainy days but don’t forget to smile and enjoy.’ is what I needed to read today, Parul. You have no idea how much I needed this. Thanks you. Also, needless to say, all your poss are just so inspiring and thought provoking these days 😊

  2. The most brilliant take on the prompt, Parul! Who would have thought that a leaf could teach us so many life lessons!
Will save this post to read again. And again. And again! 🙂

  3. Wow! It was quite thought provoking. I liked how you drew the connection between the sole leaf lying on the road and the situations of life. All things said, it is important to save for the rainy day without losing the essence of today.

  4. As I read your post, Parul, I was thinking of all the street children and missing children I’ve been indirectly working for over the last month. They truly embody what the phrase fragile lives is all about. From all my direct interactions with them in earlier years, I know that despite their resilience and the act they put on, they’re so very fragile.
    Your analogy is fantastic.

  5. Very thought-provoking post, Parul. I love the way you drew parallels with that leaf and the situations in life. Yes, can’t let go of today and can’t ignore tomorrow either. What a fragile life we have!

  6. I loved this post.. loved the prosaic poetry in it… the food for thought… we indeed lead so fragile lives, just like a leaf we want to be free from our roots, explore the world, run after success and salaries and yet yearn to be back home where we belong… very thought provoking and honest..

  7. I am enthralled to see your take on every prompt. Well-done Parul. A thought-provoking post. What would I do if I were a leaf ? Just sway away to unknown destinations and enjoy my journey to wherever it takes me. 🙂
