When I think of a promise, I believe that you don’t have to really call it loud. Promises are words that are said with all honesty and then kept.
When parents decide to take care of their new-born, they keep their words for life.
When children aspire to be the best in class, they keep their words for ambition.
When lovers decide to hold hands, they keep their words for love.
When social workers work on a cause, they keep their words for society.
When an honest politician takes up the cause of her constituency, she keeps her words for betterment.
When a defense officer takes up his job, he keeps his words for the country.
All around us, people keep their words and live up to them. It’s very important to mean what you say and if you can do that, you have kept your word and your promise.
What do you think of a promise?
I am with Team #CrimsonRush and today is Day 7 of the #BarAThon.
I love how you take an everyday activity and link it up to the prompt. So true, we should mean what we say.

So true, Parul. A promise only makes sense when it is kept. Congratulations on successfully completing the BAR-A-THON!

I believe a promise should always be kept which is why I am careful while making any – specially to the kids. They’ll never let me hear the end of it if I break any of mine :-P.
Congratulations for making it to the end of the challenge despite your crazy schedule and constant work calls. You’re a great team player.

When I think about promise, the first thing that comes in my mind is – keeping your promise. Because your promise is someone’s hope and it hurts when hope shatters.

Well said Tarang. We cannot shatter hope.

I am with you on this one, Parul. Keep a promise (verbal / non-verbal) and always ensure you live up to it. You did a nice job of demonstrating what a promise means to multiple people of varying occupations in different relationships. Loved it. 🙂

Oh yes, promises are meant to be kept and should not be broken for they are a lot like impressions. The second one dont count for much.

Keeping promises defines the strength of character … the will and determination that a person has. And not everyone is that determined. Those who are reach the heights they dream of. Wonderful take on the prompt. 🙂

You are so right Raji. Determination in everyday life takes one places.

Lot of people say but they don’t mean it….very few there are who actually keep promises and those who do are the courageous ones….

Making promises is way easier than keeping them. I’d rather not make a promise if I know I won’t be able to keep it!
One more example of a promise could be our blogging challenges! We make a promise to publish good quality posts for the entire duration of the challenge, and most of us end up doing that 🙂

Right! These challenges are promises that we kept 🙂

A promise only means something when it is made with sincerity and the resolve to keep it. Loved all your posts through the series Parul, but the leaf one and the HR bias remain my favorites!

Thank you, Kala. The leaf one was my favorite too 🙂

I believe promises should be made when one intends to honour them otherwise they are just shallow words. As a parent, one has to be especially conscious of her words because children lose their faith in them when promises made to them get broken recklessly and without explainations.

You are right. They learn to do things from parents and it’s the right time to set examples.

Promises can be complicated. For example, a politician should keep his/her word, but what if the promise they made before entering office is a promise they later learn is not for the benefit of the people they are suppose to be serving? And maybe the people being served don’t know that? So, while I agree for the most part, you do have to keep in mind that there are always exceptions to the rule…

And agree to your point Mandy. As long as the person involved knows about why the promise was broken, the trust stays. Else imagine how hard it would be to build that all over again.
