I have a repeat alarm on my phone and it has been set up for thirty minutes before the time I want to get up.
Why?
I want to be able to hit snooze, talk some sense into my sleepy mind and prepare myself to get up and get going.
Does it work?
Yes.
On most days.
However, on some days this approach doesn’t work.
As I keep snoozing my alarm, sometimes I talk nonsense into my sleepy mind. Stuff like, “You worked out 6 days in a row. You can sleep.” “You slept late at night, you can sleep this morning”. “A break is not as bad as it sounds. Go for it”. On days like these, I miss my yoga or my walk. You know what happens next. Obviously, no point crying over spilt milk. No point feeling guilty throughout the day. So on and so forth.
So, I have found a way to handle this. I ask my sleepy mind if I will miss work today. If I will skip breakfast or meal today. You know the answer I get.
Of course, not.
And with that thought, I ask myself why should I miss my workout? Isn’t it an equally important part of my life? Taking care of my body is my job and no one else’s. These are like those ten seconds pep talks and on most of ‘those’ few days, they work.
As I get up and get going, I do not feel guilty or cry over that milk that’s spilt. I start my day on a happy and refreshing note.
Tell me what do you do? Do you hit snooze? If you do, what do you tell yourself? How do you follow your workout schedule?
I would love some additional tips and maybe tomorrow morning, I will get up and get going.
Writing for MicroblogMondays #126 today. Tagging the picture I once clicked to Mundane Monday #93.
Nice way to handle this morning drama dear .. I also have these silly questions running in my mind !

I never hit snooze because I don’t want the man to wake up from his sleep. But I do sit with closed eyes on the couch for 10-15 minutes talking to myself.

How sweet you are. You ha e to listen to stories that VT had to share about alarms. My mum does that sitting thing.

I hit the snooze button and fell asleep. I didn’t say anything to myself. One day, I hit the snooze button and the alarm never went off again that day. An hour later, I woke up and wondered what had happened.

I tend to wake up not remembering what day it is or why I set my alarm. I barely know my name the first half hour or so. Because I’m so slow to get moving in the morning, I’ve found I do better setting my alarm earlier, hitting snooze once or twice and then having more time to get ready. But it totally depends on your internal clock and what works for you!

I think I’m exactly like you. I forget the day of the week and why getting up is needed. Funny!

I am a chronic snooze button hitter… I set it half an hour before too… Sometimes I even wake up before the alarm , wait for it to ring and then snooze it to go back to sleep. 🙈
It was in my goals to start early morning workouts … Sigh I need to be strong willed like you!

Lol! I do that too. I prefer mornings cos evenings are too packed. The will is out of necessity.

Most days I do hit the snooze button. But the days that I don’t are the happiest ones because I’m up little before I need to and my mornings turn out relaxed and happy.

Sometimes I like to do that. The peace in the morning is just so relaxing.

Though I love the snooze button but it usually raises my anxiety levels about the alarm not going off and the resulting interrupted sleep. So, it’s ‘Right Now’ for me especially on work days.

Oh yes. I am a snoozer. I always hope to turn into one of those people who wakes before the alarm goes off and turns the switch before the awful sound, but I am not a morning person at all. Which isn’t great, since as a middle school teacher I often have meetings at 7:20 (inhumane!!!). My goal this year is to hit snooze only once, but I’ve done a lousy job. Especially when it’s so dark in the morning. I wish I could get up earlier and work out before school, but there’s not a prayer of that happening. I usually work out on the weekends and the evenings, going for a walk or doing a bit of yoga. The thought of convincing myself to get up early to do my yoga before I shower sounds amazing, though…good for you!

Parul I got the snooze button everyday. I have this wierd habit of keeping the alarm half an hour before I really have to get up. So if my day has to begin at 5.30… the alarm is set for 5 am and I snooze every ten minutes till 5.30. I then somehow get up. The snooze kind off breaks my sleep slowly and steadily and I am up to begin my day.

Exactly what I do, Ramya. And I have been doing this since I was a little girl. Old habit sure die hard 😉

I never hit snooze… I’m usually awake for ages before my alarm goes, trying to block out the noise of traffic. My head is usually telling me “Do I really have to go to ****ing work?”. I’m working on changing both the noisy house and the work situation! I only work out about twice a week in the evening: weights. My muscles are like jelly in the morning and won’t cooperate….

I smiled the moment I saw the title, yes I used to snooze earlier too. Somehow offlate I get up before the alarm goes off. may be because I keep it too early and don’t want the house to get disturbed.

I used to snooze earlier, but now I have stopped keeping an alarm itself. I hate mornings and waking up early is a torture for me. Strangely I seem to be waking up by myself these days. Just in time enough to cook breakfast, lunch and get ready to work.
I know I’m not helping. Sorry!

I do hit snooze sometimes, but almost always force myself to go to yoga. 6:50 am is the no-going-back point, so I don’t let myself sleep all the way until then. Even though I want to sleep and I don’t want to do yoga. I’m not great with mornings.

I don’t hit snooze, because I’d go back to sleep, and then feel worse when I’m woken a second time. I force myself to wake up (if I absolutely have to get up), although it sometimes might take me 10-20 minutes to get out of bed!

Usually I never set alarm duting my college days. I would have an intuition to wake up exactly. And I never snooze my alarm. Speaking to the mind in the night and making it ready to wake up at the time needed is the simple technique I am using for the past 20 years.

I’m not a morning person. I do hit my snooze. Twice and each lasts 10 minutes. It gives me time to process waking up and come to terms with the idea of getting out of bed. Did I mention I don’t like mornings? I need to try your trick of asking myself if I will skip a meal and equate that to skipping my exercising because I need to get on point with that!

I get up with hubby every morning, to help him get ready for work (as a stay-at-home mom who homeschools, I figure it’s the least I can do), so he’s the one in charge of the alarm, and typically hits the snooze a number of times. However, in the past couple of weeks, he’s woken me up with the first alarm, so I can stumble to the kitchen to grab coffees for the both of us. It gives us about 15 minutes to sip, wake up our brains, and chat a little about the day ahead. It’s amazing how much smoother the rest of the morning goes as a result. 🙂

Yes, I hit snooze! Sometimes twice. My alarm goes off at 6:00 and then 6:10 and 6:20. I have to get up no later than that to make sure my kids get out the door on time for school. I have been working out in the afternoon/evening during the winter. I just can’t feel inspired to get up early when it’s COLD!

I hit snooze most of the times. I see the time and feel that moment of happiness knowing that I have a little more time to sleep. But during this entire course, it’s A who gets annoyed for not getting up or not turning off the alarm. The way you ask question to yourself sounds really impressive. I think I should give it a try sometime!

Ha ha Parul. I normally do this for when I have to get up realky early, usually to catch a flight or something.
Otherwise I have 5 mt snooze, thrice on my daily alarm and yes I do procrastinate a great deal before getting up for my walk or yoga. But I tell myself to do it 4 times a week and so tomorrow I will sleep in but today let ne get up.
Works 90% of the time 😊
