“If you do good, you will go to heaven.”
“If you don’t follow the rituals, you will go to hell.”
What is heaven and hell? Places humans go to after death? Maybe yes. Maybe no. No has ever come back from these two unknown destinations to share their travel experiences.
Isn’t it?
There are no blog posts, no reviews, no best time to visit and nothing like where to stay.
Heaven and hell are both here on the Earth. Everything comes back to us in due time. Whether it’s good that one does or bad. Things find their way to go around the world and then land in your lap. Right when you expected them the least.
So do good and be good.
“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”
― William W. Purkey
I am participating in the A To Z Challenge for the third time this year and I am penning Stories from everyday life.
Do good, and be good. 🙂 Yes. I agree. Couldn’t have put it better!

Doing unto others what we’d love done to us is the only way to make the most of the gift of life.
A beautiful reminder, this!

There is a book I read in college and a book I thoroughly enjoyed called ‘Dr. Faustus’. I won’t give the story away but it’s built on the basic premise that Heaven and hell do not exist as entities or places but as pieces of our own soul. We have good in us just as we have bad in us. The key is which do we choose on a daily basis. That determines our happiness.

True, there’s no heaven and hell and if it’s there, it’s here on this earth and we do get to be there in our lifetime based on our actions.

This is the most beautiful advice and also a real meaningful one. Correct whatever you wish to right here for here.

Each one has a right to believe what he wants. It becomes sad when people dont realize the wonders on earth and start doing wrong things in their rigidity and quest for a place in heaven.

Whatever you have written I totally agree even then I believe heaven and hell are there.
No one has come back to tell us abt their life there , our good n bad deeds decide heaven n hell on earth
Phir bhi dil kahta hai kuch to hoga …..

So true, we create our own heaven and hell right here on Earth. Still I would like to believe that there is a Heaven we all return to once our Earthly journey is over.

Serious question – do we have the concept of heaven and hell in Hinduism? Because I don’t think I grew up with that concept. I learnt about it through movies and books. I remember being threatened that god would punish us for doing naughty things but that was all. I don’t believe in a heaven or hell…I believe in nothingness after death. So basically, I believe if you do good, you do it because you want to, you choose to. Not because of fear of retribution after death.

Some thoughts that are going on in my mind after reading this (very inarticulately summarized; apologies):
Personally, I don’t believe in an afterlife.
I think if someone is being good only to reach the promised “heaven”, they’re not doing a good job of being good.
I’m not sure karma exists, but again, adding to point 2 above, I wouldn’t be good expecting good karma in return. Expecting it negates it, don’t you think?
Also, if karma exists, it should happen in this lifetime, cos point # 1.
So yes, to add to what you said, do good and be good, because you want to do good and be good; not because you were promised some angels singing on clouds.

I’m kinda with Sreesha and Sanch Vee to some extent here. Doing good should never be about going to heaven or hell. You should do good because you know it is the right thing.

Heaven and hell are a construct that’s present in both religion and culture. But still, I believe that there’s something out there when our earthly journey is over. Anyway, we make our life, so it depends on us if we want to live in a heavenly or a hellish Earth. I agree with your point — do good and be good.

I dont agree with them as being an afterworld thing! I believe we create our own private heaven and hell in out life here and we pay back everything we put out there. All of us clear our accounts before checking out.
Its upto us for making sure what our balance to be accounted for is.
