The world is not as fair as we would want it to be. Pick up a newspaper or log on to Google, you will know what I mean. However, if you are one who doesn’t object to a wrongdoing that happens to you or in front of your eyes, you are equally at fault.
Do you object when you are treated unfairly?
Do you object when you are discriminated because of your caste, color or gender?
What do you do when your beliefs are challenged? Do you then put your foot down?
When you are expected to handle it all alone, do you ask for help and seek the support you should get?
Have you stood up for yourself and your rights?
Do you know you are unique?
Have you realized that your life will be what you make of it?
Are you scared to challenge the status quo?
What’s not right, needs to be challenged and objected. So let go whatever holds you back and live life your way.
Remember, you live only once.
Today’s post is for both men and women. I am participating in the A To Z Challenge for the third time this year and I am penning Stories from everyday life.
Yeah. When it’s not right and it compromises on my stand, I do raise the point. But professionally, at least, I do have to compromise on my stand at times since it’s a team decision.

I have learnt to voice my opinion quite strongly Now. People have so many assumptions, so many misconceptions and they always see a situation from one perspective. Sometimes I feel guilty if I don’t voice out my views or show them a different perspective. We can’t always change people’s opinion, but we can always show them that there are two sides of a coin.

Standing up for what’s right is what I do, it’s not taken in the right spirit usually, but then I dont care about it!

Took me a long time to get this in my life. When I stopped being a ‘yes man’, a lot of people who were used to getting freebies from me ironically objected. But it was essential to retain my own sense of dignity and purpose.

Your post is food for thought, Parul. Good one!

Being a generally quiet and introverted person, a lot of people mistakenly believe they can walk over me or take me for granted. I may not raise my voice or be confrontational, but when lines are crossed, I can stand up pretty well for myself.

I always say that if I don’t take a step to atleast register a complaint, why should I then only blame the system?
Standing up and speaking up is important to bring about a change.
Awesome point, Parul!!!

Such a strong and important message sent out in such simple words. It is imperative for us to start knowing the value of standing up for ourselves. It is indeed the first step to standing by others for justice. Very well written.

Parul while I agree that one should stand up for one’s rights, object to what’s wrong etc etc , don’t you think this constant fault finding causes a lot of angst? Why not instead try and concentrate on other positives in this world ? At least once in a while ?

That’s a lot of questions. I don’t stand up for myself at work finding it stressful to face the backlash of hate. I’d rather leave the job and hopefully find myself a better fit somewhere else. I do stand up for myself in my personal relationships though.

I used to be the person who did not question. I am no longer that person. Not that I do it always when I feel like it but I am certainly improving.

Good advice. But very difficult to follow in many situations.

Objecting is good, but there is a thin line between objecting and forcing our view and we need to be conscious of the same.

Good post! We need to stand up for ourselves more. I am a fairly complacent person who is laid back and goes along with most things. I do find as I age I am getting more crochety and speak out more than I used to. I object to discrimination and inequality and like to write about it or share links on the subject. Thanks for the reminder for us all to speak out and object to things that are wrong and hurt others.
