The quiet and serene Kala Pathar beach

After watching the gorgeous Sunset at the Radhanagar beach and staying back till the night dawned, we decided to explore more of Havelock on the next day.

Our return to Port Blair was by the evening ferry so we decided to rent a bike and explore Havelock on our own. The locals suggested Kala Pathar beach and a ride to this beach was worth the effort. Zipping through a small village and asking locals the route, we knew we had headed the right way when we spotted the sea along the road.

There were hardly any tourists at that time of the hour and we had time until the ferry was ready to head to Port Blair. Most itineraries accommodate a day in Havelock. Tourists visit this island to dive or try other water sports. So for sightseeing, it is natural to visit the more well-known Radhanagar beach. However, VT and I had more than a day with us and having tried the water sports, we wanted to grab a moment of quiet. Kala Pathar beach gave us that time.

You will find a small bamboo entrance to the beach and I felt it was just to mark an area. There is no entry fee but if you are hungry, there are food stalls. Some serve fresh fruits and tender coconut, sell small souvenirs and at one small stall, you can also enjoy Maggi like I did.

Imagine a life watching the sea and reading under the shade of a tree. Dreamlike, isn’t it?

The beach is untouched and clean. Fallen trees and the turquoise water made a beautiful scene and a memory for keeps.

If you plan to visit the Andamans, spend another day and do visit the Kala Pathar beach. You will sure not regret the choice.
