Gratitude List – September 2017

Better late than never, right?

I am grateful to September for a lot of things. So grateful that I procrastinated penning it down for you all. Sometimes Most of the times, I am writing in my mind. I enjoy the process of drafting a post, editing it and then adding pictures before I hit publish. And then what happens is I don’t write or I don’t get enough time.

Let’s leave all that aside and get to how September was. Last month for me felt like getting back to my life in Bangalore. Workouts, food at home and then work – all got back to its usual place after the US trip and then the holiday to Ladakh. So in no particular order, here is a list of things I am grateful.

Workouts: I got back to my routine and started training with Cult. Yes, I am still upset that my yoga center closed. However, on the bright side, I was able to attempt Zumba and tried a class on strength and conditioning. A total of 16 days of workout and I should be able to improve this month. I am grateful that I was able to handle my back well and avoided discomfort.

Prayer Flags: I enjoy shopping but when I am traveling, I don’t want to dedicate a day to shop. I feel that it is a waste of time when every thing is available every where. But I wanted two things from Ladakh – magnets for my refrigerator and prayer flags. If you ever Google a picture of mountains or Himalayas, one thing that stands out is the prayer flag. Colorful and the meaning that they carry is a treasure. So we picked up a few. I am grateful that after the drive we were able to share our experiences with many (inspired a few to take up a trip to Ladakh) and that the prayer flag is now a part of us.

And our car now bears the testimony of our travel. #wewillbeback #theladakhroadtrip #prayerflags #twotravelersoneheart

Birthdays, the happy days: Both VT and our godchild are September babies. We had some good time out with friends last month. Friends who eat together, stay together. We were able to meet on working days and celebrate special days. Going back home from work and knowing that we will be with the family we have chosen is a joy. I am grateful that we were all able to set aside time for ‘us’.

A short road trip: VT and I decided to head to Hyderabad over the last weekend of the month. We met my cousins and had a fun time. I feel really good about the fact that though we don’t meet or talk often, the warmth is intact. The love and affection shone through all the three days. VT and I are both grateful that we have another home in the city of Nawabs.

Another feather in the cap this month was my story about Nisha Rao. Documenting her almost impossible feat brought me many visitors and sure the blog was happy with some attention. Can you believe that I had a month of numbers being hit in a week? Yes, it went crazy and I am so glad that Nisha’s story saw the light it deserved.

September was good and another two and a half months to go for the year. Where did the time fly? I am looking forward to Diwali with my parents and a lot of food overload. The festive season is here and I can’t wait to bring in the lights and diyas.

How was your September? What is that one thing you are grateful for?

  1. Glad to see you had such good month. It’s nice to get back to routine after long travels. Such a shame about your yoga centre closing down. It happened with my Zumba classes and I never could go back to it. However, thanks to that I discovered Yoga – I see it’s the reverse for you!

  2. That’s a pretty neat month for you, Parul. I do Zumba at home and both the kids love it. 😀How long have you been doing Zumba? My husband also celebrated his birthday in September. We visited a nearby place which was so nice and pleasant.

  7. I write in my mind a lot too! Sometimes I’m so sure I’ve started a post, but it’s nowhere in my drafts, and I realized I haven’t actually typed it out.

I feel the same way about shopping while traveling. So glad you got the prayer flags, though. What a perfect representation of Ladakh to take home with you!

  10. For October, I am grateful that (although the reason for this was a sad one) I got to talk with some of my cousins and my last living uncle last week. It’s something that doesn’t happen often enough.

  12. Your september sounds delightfully envious to me; a trip to the US and then Ladakh – super duper awesome Gurl! And the party seems to be continuing it seems with friends and family. I lost out on my prayer flags when I moved homes as I forgot to take them down- I had pinned them over my main door entrance.
Glad to see that your fitness regime is not being ignored either- you certainly seem to have it all in order! Wishing you a very joyful october and Diwali Parul – happiness always!! 🙂

  13. Good to see you back here, Parul. And great to know you had a decent September. Oddly, despite it being my birthday month, September (and the past few months) – maybe even the year has been a little strange. Oh well, don’t let me dampen your spirits. I’m sort of looking forward to finishing this year on a high – not sure how, but I’m sure as heck gonna try!

  14. I get the part about writing posts in your head! Glad it’s not just me. 😉
What a great month you’ve had, Parul. Those prayer flags are always so beautiful – they seem to add that wonderful dash of color to what sometimes seems like a stark terrain.
I do hope you plan to visit your cousins again soon!
