#FridayReflections – A free write

She cautiously set her cup on the table and decided it was enough. A week of no activity was not good for her health. Both physical and mental. Her creative juices were drying up and her back had started to hurt.

This is what happens when you take a day break to sleep. You think you need a day and that becomes two days and slowly a week. Suddenly, more things pile up and you are out for a week and then the weather stops supporting. It rains cats and dogs and the flu finds a home in your body. What started as a break becomes a vacation. An unwelcomed one.

She decided this was enough.

A warm water bath, change of clothes, a cup of piping hot ginger tea and her laptop was all she needed to get started. There was no one at home so it was quiet to concentrate.

But what will she write?

She wanted to share a travel story or it could be a life reflection too. Many varied thoughts led to confusion and she was struggling to decide.

Then here what she did. She set the timer for 5 minutes and wrote exactly what was on her mind. At the end of her time, she has ~150 words and that’s what she clean ed up to publish.

Bloggers do all sort of things to get to the zone of writing and like you can now guess, I am feeling so much better now that this post is live.

True life story. Happened yesterday. As real as it can get.

A quick free write to break a week of no-blogging and writing for #FridayReflections from where this idea came.

  1. Parul, bloggers sure know some tricks! It is not necessary to have a topic in your mind to write. When you want to write- write! It is therapeutic. I hope you are already back to routine and will find some interesting tree and a shot to share next week! Have a relaxing weekend! 🙂

  2. I think we had a week (s) with the same theme for both of us Parul. I can so relate to opening up of heart and letting the mind take the control of the pen.
Happy that you found your gait at the end of the exercise.

  3. Good that you wrote Parul. I am in the same boat too. Haven’t published a post for 2 weeks and my brain is all eager to express my emotions. I am glad I could join #FridayReflections. Hifi!

  4. Writing always makes me feel better afterwards too. I can relate. I love reading these kinds of raw and honest posts. It makes me feel less alone. Glad you’re feeling better.

  5. Free write is savior, right? I’m glad you wrote this post, Parul. Hope you were able to free your body of flu. Here all four of us are sailing the same boat, down with soar throat, cold and cough. Take care!

  6. I had done this twice, it was good feeling. Putting words together without thinking much about the context and bothering about the topic.
