The weekend is almost here. From my living room, I can see that the Sun has set and it’s getting dark outside. I have wrapped up my work. I can still hear VT in his study and I know his work calls will go on a bit longer.
Long enough for me to think about a few things, look up my journal to close to a few things, and add a few to manage over the coming week. My mind is wandering from one thought to the other. I feel like it’s playing hopscotch. And I am constantly bringing it back to focus.
This is not the usual thing. I stopped writing when the second wave hit India. So I am attempting a free write after a long time and I feel things are non coherent. But who gets it right without trying or taking chances?
On an evening like this, I pick up a hook and crochet something. It gives me a sense of calm. As I complete projects, there is joy in accomplishing and creating something from scratch.
But today, I want to write.
I want to share a bit more about my life. Not that there is anything new but yes, I am older. Saying it out loud feels different but we are now forty and maybe it’s fair to say that we are at the half-point mark of our lives. Optimistically speaking.
I still feel like I am work-in-progress.
Last weekend, I went back to group workout classes and as I danced to some Bollywood tunes with a group, I realized that my body too needs more work. Despite working out regularly at home, I feel that some of my joints are rusted. They need some more movement than I was giving them. So 2023 will be taking care of myself and strengthening my physical and mental self.
VT just stepped out of his study and maybe we can go for a walk. My help has also finished cooking and the house is quiet again. I am glad that the weekend is here and I will rest a bit.
I like slowing down the pace when I can and soaking in what all I can. Like the warmth in the Sun before it starts to rain and the quiet before it starts to become chaotic.
Friday Reflections is a link-up hosted by Corinne at The Frangipani Creative, Shalini at Kohl Eyed Me and yours truly. We invite you to join us every First Friday of the month to share a good cup of tea and your reflections based on the prompts we provide or free write. You can find the prompts for this month here.

I’m so glad that you are back to writing, Parul. I’m convinced that we all need to do it more often.
I enjoyed getting an insight into your life and totally understand how crochet and finishing a project can be so rewarding. I used to knit, but have temporarily shelved it due to should pain. I’m nowhere near your level of competence though!
Have a great weekend and may you and VT continue to be blessed!

Thanks Corinne! I’m glad we are supporting each other. You are right. We all need to write more often.
I would love to see your knits. I’ll pick up knitting in 2023. I got my Nani’s needles but then I see that I need to have circular ones so I’m looking up stuff these days to buy and start.
You too have a good one and take care! ♥️

So glad to see you back with this free write post, Parul. It’s been heartening to see and read so many posts from the blogging community this month. I hope this trend continues through the months to follow. It’s nice to take short breaks and nourish oneself mentally and physically, by doing things that one loves…so glad you have your writing and crochet to fall back on and give you the much-needed break from the routine. Hope you and VT enjoyed your evening walk together.
Wish you a relaxed weekend, Parul.
P.S. Eager to read more free write posts from you, from now on. 🙂

Thanks Esha! We went for a walk and though it was late, I am glad we stretch our legs. Yes, I see that many of us are trying to be regular which is good. We need to be the support for each other. Writing helps us all and we need to help each other to write.
I’m glad you also joined. Thank you!

What a great view from your window!
You seem to live very high up.
Needlework to relax is a nice hobby, I’m knitting socks at the moment, it’s always a lot of fun
I stumbled upon your blog by accident and immediately added it to my reading list.
Greetings from far away Germany

Parul, I enjoyed the free flow of your feelings articulated so well. The biggest beauty of writing according to me is to own up our feelings and to acknowledge them. Its great to be seeing this in your workAbout your love for crochet, as long as you love it you should not give up, and glad to see that you do it still, unlike many of us who give up our passions owing to other commitments. I think everyone has to have that ‘me time’ which gives them unadulterated bliss, far from the mundane existence of our daily living.

There’s so much I can relate to in this writing. I too feel I am still a work in progress at 67 and probably always will be. I also love what you wrote about slowing down the pace and soaking in all you can – “the warmth in the Sun before it starts to rain and the quiet before it starts to become chaotic.” Beautiful! Free writing, like the stream of consciousness writing I participate in on Saturdays, helps us get to know each other and realize we are not alone. Free writing and stream of consciousness can be healing and fun. Keep taking good care of yourself, Parul. Enjoy your day.

Free write is something that when we start to write it feels odd and incoherent. But when you are writing it makes complete sense, especially to the reader. I am so happy to read your reflection, Parul. It’s like I was sitting next to you, listening to you watching the evening sky. I really hope to read a lot more from you this year. 🙂

Free writing is the best way to warm up the brain and flex those fingers. The brain also helps get you topics to write about, thanks to its jumping from thought to thought, like a monkey! 😛 I am happy you are back to blogging, Parul.
I would love to see your latest crochet creations. 🙂

Nice to be here again, Parul. After a hiatus, we are all picking up pace with writing our hearts out. I’m loving it and it is really nice to see a slice of our mundane lives up here, which might look so different in the coming years. I wish I learnt to knit, maybe something for later – I tried once and then the bundle of wool was taken and shredded to bits by my pet. Well, that’s where it stands at the moment. I’ll have to try that again. Happy week ahead and take care!

Great to see you back on the groove, Parul.
Wishing you bliss and calm and nothing like going with the slow.
40 is dazzling so is 50. I just turned 50 some moons ago and it feels pretty good to have lived half a century with the ups and downs of life and the greys and greens. 🙂
Wishing you love, light and laughter in your 40s.
