This sky and some reflections #1

Nature is an inspiration and I am no one to tell you that.

You know that.

Look around and see.

Flowers bloom in the harshest of weather, trees stand tall when the wind blows or the snow falls, the sea roars but controls its anger and the mountains remain grounded even when it is biting cold.

Like many people, my world changed a bit after Covid. More mentally than anything and it’s hard to put this change into words. Writing and blogging look a backseat and though I have tried, most of my efforts have failed. However, I don’t have any intentions of letting this space die. Falling back on nature is something that comes easy to me.

So, a very warm welcome to this new feature on happiness and food that I am going to call ‘This sky and some refections’.

This sky and some reflections #1

The story I want to share : Close to three years ago, we moved into a house of our own. When we were looking for apartments, my only criteria was a naturally lit house from where I can either see the Sun set or the Sun rise. At that time, we were moving from our small flat which had a beautiful Gulmohar tree infront of our balcony and I was sad to let that part of my life go.

But we got lucky with our house hunt and landed into a flat in a high rise building. This flat has an unobstructed view to the east sky and I am a happy soul when I step out into our balcony. I can’t sleep beyond six which is both good and bad but for today, I will tell you that Sun in my face first thing in the morning is way better than no Sun at all. There are days that I see eagles soaring high. And then on some lucky days, I get to see a rainbow.

I clicked this picture from our balcony less than a month back and this shot has been an inspiration for me to write.

What the sky tells me: Dark clouds and a rainbow are not two sides of the same coin. They are on the same side. Some times one leads to the other and some times the other leads to the first. When I spotted the dark clouds, I could see and feel that a heavy down pour was on the way. And to my joy, the rainbow also told me what to look forward to. The dark clouds would pass and the sky would give way to the sunshine.

If only we wait, the rainbow would follow. And when we have the rainbow, we ought to be grateful and know that when the dark clouds come, we need to let them pass. Giving way is important and that’s what the universe expects from us.

What do you see in this sky?

Every first Monday of a month, I will share with you a piece of sky that I see and some reflections. If that is something that strikes a chord with you, you are most welcome to join. There are no rules here.

  • If you are a reader, let me know what you think of the post and the reflections. Your comment will give me some food for thought.
  • If you are a blogger and would like to write – post a picture of your sky, write on your blog and leave a link here. Better if you can also link back to this post.
  • Last request – don’t forget to tell me the city and country where you clicked the picture.

  1. Beautiful you sharing a piece of sky. Beautiful nature area. You look and see Nature. You see the Sunset and Sunrise , you are so lucky, that Sun in you face first thing in the morning is way better than no Sun at all. There are days that you see eagles soaring high. And then on some lucky days, you gets to see a rainbow.

  2. I am in awe of the sky views from your balcony. Those thunderous black clouds claiming a large share of the sky look mighty. And the rainbow co-existing in the distance adds a dash of colour even though it is only a faint one. Making the sky your recurring muse is a great idea. I am looking forward to see this space go lively once again 🙂

    1. You have to come over home, Anamika! I am also hoping this feature will make me write at least one a month more. Have been very non-aspirational but I think it’s realistic too.

  3. What a gorgeous sky view is that, Parul! I think the rainbow shot is fabulous and it also makes the overcast sky even more dramatic!! Congratulations on the new feature on the blog – loving the idea – I’m really eager to see more of your sky photo collection (more so, as the views from the higher floors are very different!) and read more of your reflections posts in the coming days. Am thinking of reviving my #SkywatchFriday posts, so whenever I’m writing for the sky posts, I’ll be definitely joining you. Good luck and best wishes, Parul.

    1. Thank you so much Esha! I’d love that. I have kept the feature monthly so that even I’m not overwhelmed. You are right – as much as I used to love the sky from my 2nd floor balcony, I also love it from the 15th. It’s out there and open which makes me look at it very regularly. Thanks again for your wishes.

  4. What a gorgeous view! Nature comes to the rescue, right Parul? Yes, we need to give way to both the dark clouds and the rainbows. When the sky is blanketed with the dark clouds we have a clear sky to look forward to. When there is a rainbow decorating the sky let’s celebrate the beauty by being in that moment.
Although the first Monday has passed, I will join with my post soon.
Congratulations on the new feature, Parul. Sky and Reflections are two of my favorite things. 🙂

  5. I love that you get to see eagles flying, rainbows and sunrises! I also love your mental perspective that the dark clouds and rainbows are the same side of the coin. Sometimes, I get to see the sun glistening through raindrops that have landed on tree branches. Maybe I’ll get a photo of that next time!
