It was a lazy Sunday and thanks to Bangalore’s weather, we were out on a long walk post noon. With hunger pangs hitting us big time, we stopped at Tadka Singh for lunch. Yes, Tadka Singh is a recently opened Punjabi restaurant on CMH Road, Indiranagar Bangalore.
Location and Setting: Something that will catch your attention even before you enter the restaurant is its location and exteriors. Vibrant Punjabi words, funny and colloquial slangs are painted on the walls in bright yellow that are inviting to read.

Interiors & Ambiance: The restaurant is spacious and has well placed tables set at a distance that makes dining outside a personal affair. The place is clean, well-lit and air-conditioned with quirky quotes at a few places. There is bright yellow colored washing machine right at the pay counter. What’s the reasoning behind placing a washing machine in a restaurant? Well, as per a Punjabi anecdote, lassis are made in large quantities in the Punjab and hence the innovative method of churning it in a washing machine. It is sort of symbolic representation of true Punjabi food and warm-hearted service.
Menu & Food: The menu is up on the wall right above the counter and you can also ask for a menu to take to your table to decide what you want to order. There is paneer, dal makhani, butter chicken, rolls, rotis, lassi, masala chaach and even choices for mini or combo meals. The variety in the menu seemed limited and one usually expects a lot more dishes than what Tadka Singh had to offer. We ordered a veg thali and a keema paratha – owning to our specific choices. The roti in the veg thali had a Tadka Singh logo on it which was cool!

The food was good to taste, freshly prepared and at the right temperature. It was served with an additional plate as well. Even the keema paratha was not loaded with oil so it felt healthy after a 90 mins walk. The quantity was good for a single diner and hence it would be advisable to order one dish per person so that you do not go back home hungry.

Service: Once you place an order at the counter, you are given a palm sized smart device that you get back to your table. The device starts vibrating once your order is ready. You need to go up to the counter to pick your food. If it’s part order that’s ready, the staff is kind enough to get the rest to your table.
Home Delivery: Tadka Singh offer home delivery as well and you can place order by calling or logging on to websites like tastykhana.in.

Talking Plastic: A meal for two would approximately cost Rs. 500. Good for us as we were on a walk and this was the maximum cash we were carrying. Looking at the pricing, I felt it was on the higher side and could be toned down a bit.
Overall, Takda Singh was a good choice and we will visit it again. If you are around CMH Road and looking for a reasonable place to dine, drop in to grab a quite bite at the restaurant and you will not be disappointed.
