A for Alike #AToZChallenge

Alike or equals?
Women and men are equals.

My daughter is like my son.

She leads her team like a man.

She is strong, confident and bold. Just like a man.

I am sure like me, you have heard these sentences. At home or at work when people compare a woman to a man, they don’t really mean to say anything else other than the female is very good. However, they end up comparing her with the benchmark they have set. A bar that they think, only a man can achieve.

Men or women don’t want to be treated like the other. They wanted to be treated are they are. As equals. Equal responsibilities, equal pay, and equal respect are what both men and women want. No privileges and no special treatments based on the gender.

Let a man be a man and let a woman be who she is. They have their own personality traits and their own strengths. They will do things differently and succeed in what they do. Let’s stop differentiating and let’s start thinking of equality. If we want a world that’s free of any prejudices and biases, it starts from us. Our thoughts and actions will lead us to what we want to see.

By not treating men and women alike but by treating them like equals.

Men are from Earth, women are from Earth. Deal with it.

  1. Totally agree, Parul. Women don’t need to be compared to men to state how far they’ve come or where they belong. They are human beings just like men and when talking about them we need to be more empathetic of this fact.
    Loved the quote ❤

  2. I agree. That “like a” tag gets annoying at times. Even when men are compared to men. Each are their own special. 🙂 Let them find their own benchmarks and goals, instead of setting on arbitrarily. Who knows, they might be setting one that they feel worthy of them. 😀

  3. Very well said. I really don’t like it when a woman is compared to a man, as if she wouldn’t have qualities of her own. We all have something beautiful to offer to others. This is what shoudl count.

  4. Well said. I was asked in my last job to take a pay cut because I had a husband who could support me. Maybe someday that thinking will disappear.

  5. Hey Parul, Another theme this year that I can relate to. I like the way you’ve completely done away with the debate by normalizing the issue. Men and Women are the same and that quote in the end nails it.
    Happy Blogging 🙂

  6. This is great. I didn’t know what theme you chose for this year’s A to Z, but your letter A post ties in nicely with your previous years’ themes.

  7. Totally agree – It annoys me that successful women are compared to men and it annoys me equally when “like a girl” is used an insult!
Love the quote at the end

  8. Awesome thoughts to begin my day with. Yes pls let a woman be a woman. And we women also need to be ourselves n not get into the competitive mode on our own too, to prove a pointless point. 🙄
Great post to start the challenge Parul- I will stay tuned for more.

  9. So true Parul. Sometimes it gets on my nerve when people compare a successful woman to a man. Why, oh why? Women are equally, if not more, capable! Great start to the challenge Parul.

  10. Let a man be a man and a woman who she is. … So true parul… And this is called acceptance which we humans seldom do. We constantly judge on the basic of benchmarks we or society sets. Wondering when we would get beyond this

  11. So true. Women are women and men are men and we all think and do things differently and the differences make life interesting. Nice start Parul

  12. So true. Who wants to walk in a shadow? Yet people are content to accept that it is ok to be compared to someone, and even feel proud about it on occasion! Hugs! Love your theme!

  13. Totally agreed. I don’t understand why there’s even the need for comparison. Everyone have their own identity and importance. We just need to respect that and then see the results.

  14. Oh I hear you, and I love the way gender prejudice is improving in our time. It’s slow of course but it’s a progress nonetheless and I’m grateful for that.

  15. oh yes, this comparison was and is still so common. True, we need to change the benchmark… the thought of equality should subconsciously come in your mind. Loved that quote.

  16. When I began reading the first few lines of the quote, I knew there would be more than that and there.. I found it! I knew you would be against women being compared to men to judge how good they are! And I totally agree with you!

    Cheers

  17. YES! This…so very important! I think there is quote about something to do with women where it’s about being like a man and I hate that quote so much because no, we are not like men. We are women and we deserve to be treated equally for what we do. We are not bold like men. We are bold. We are not confident like men. We are confident. Love this post Parul! As always, you speak to me and fire up all the things I’m passionate about! 😀

  18. Reading the first three sentences, I felt my hackles rise. By the end, I was nodding along – amen to all that! Feminism isn’t about turning women INTO men; it’s about equal rights and opportunities to pursue our dreams, whether they are the same or different, in our own ways. It’s about access to the playing field and achieving our objectives – not necessarily in exactly the same ways. We women bring unique strengths to the table, as do men. Why are there “boy” or “girl” colors, toys, professions, sports? These things have nothing to do with gender. Have you ever seen this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjJQBjWYDTs Pretty powerful.

  19. Loved it Parul. we need to stop discriminating on the basis of gender. Sadly, people do not understand it and compare us on the basis of works, lifestyle etc. Loved the quote in the end.

  20. This is so true, Parul! Those first three sentences (and I’m sure I have uttered them about myself, even) really does denigrate women, when you think about it. Thanks for pointing it out!

  21. So true and how relatable!! I wonder when a wonan’s strength is considered her own trait snd not like a man!

Powerful thought Parul. A great start to the challenge!!
