A quarter year is all we got before we step into the new year. As I sit typing this post, I wonder about the time of the year we are in.
Personally, this is my favorite time of the year. It has been since I was a little girl. I love the nip in the air when the monsoons have retreated and we head to winters. The city I live in, Bangalore doesn’t get cold as much but when up north the cold waves engulf the region, we also feel a slight chill. Mornings are beautiful and the Sun sets early indicating that the season has officially begun.
It’s not that time of the year without having a festival or two every other week. Days seem to whiz by in celebrations and festivities. Lights adorn streets and houses and sometimes it seems every one is happy. How I wish that was true!

For those who love cooking, it’s not that time of the year without cooking a meal loaded with peas, carrots and cauliflower. My Mum used to say that our appetite goes up in the season and that’s why people put on some happy weight.
For those who leave near the mountains or experience extreme winters, it’s not that time of the year without some snowfall. My team in Central America talks about many inches of snow that piles up overnight. How it disrupts traffic yet the city looks beautiful in a white cover.

It’s not that time of the year without taking a stock of progress and accomplishments over the three quarters gone by. My friends and particularly blogger friends talk about their goals and items they could tick off from their list.
It’s not that time of the year without thinking of a winter break and vacation from work. VT and I usually take a break at the year end to travel. It is our time to explore and spend time with each year. Last year, we traveled to Central India and loved our time at the National Parks.
I wonder is it the time of the year or me who is reminiscing about all this? What do you think? Are you with me?

You are aright about it being that time of the year when we all start to look at where the year has flown. What needs to be done more and what to change or look forward to in the new year. You have captured the entire feeling of this time in the post – veggies, festivals, travel and weather – all find an honorable mention. Loved reading this thoughtful post Parul 🙂

oh I love this part of the year. I just run to do so many different things to put ticks on my evergrowing list of things to do and accomplish. Travel list, something new list, something given up list, habit list. Yikes! It is an apt topic for this installment of #wordsmatter. Looking forward to reading all posts.

You took me down the memory lane of living in North India with the festivities, the nights getting colder and the misty dusks.
I used to love this time of the year in India when I lived on my own because it meant Diwali is fast approaching, the only festival I feel upbeat about and committ myself to the house cleaning frenzy and lighting up the house.

Well said, Parul! It is that time of the year with festivals, reviews and new plans in the offing! So much goes on during this festive time. I feel at times that it’s better when things are a little quiet, though! Wishing you a wonderful time on the last quarter! May there be many more amazing memories from these three months before the new year arrives.

Oh definitely the time to reflect, to catch up, or slow down depending on what you have achieved till now. Also besides the healthy veggies that flood the market, the mithai also adds sweetness.

True that! The loads of mithai.

Ah yes it is that time of year when a strange happiness is in the air. Sadly because of my fractured arm , I can only observe and partake of the food but for me it is not that time of year without cleaning up the house, meeting with relatives and celebrating the end of yet another year.

I love this time of year too! But for me in South Africa we are heading into Summer! My favorite season! December is also our holiday season with most businesses closing in mid-December around our public holiday (Day of Reconciliation) and only reopening in the new year. It’s also my favorite time to take stock and look at all that I’ve accomplished throughout the year and set some new goals for the year ahead.

It is that time of the year that makes us look at everything with fresh eyes! Here we dont have snowfall but the cold-harsh winds of winter that make a warm cup & pink mittens the must have accessories!

This is actually that time of the year where one wants to slow down, and yes, review, contemplate and perhaps think forwards and backwards too 🙂
A holiday in the mountains sounds perfect for the plan! I hope to see the snowfall someday – this photo is beautiful 🙂

It’s a wonderful time of the year, Parul. I like the festivals, the interaction with neighbors, friends and family and also a little bit of travel. And son coming home, if only for a short week! Oh yes, also the seasonal vegetables that are in abundance in the market right now! Gajar halwa, anyone?

Hi Parul, even my mom used to say that our appetite goes up during winter. I am not fond of vegetables but during childhood I used to love the various colours of vegetables during winter. Back in those days there were few vegetables that we got only during winter, these days all vegetables are available throughout the year but then things were different. Every evening my mom used to make a bowl of boiled vegetables that she served with butter and black pepper. The taste still lingers in my mouth. This post made me nostalgic, loved it. Btw where are you planning to visit this year?
