Raavan

We just celebrated Dussehra over the weekend and one way of celebrating this festival is by burning Raavan’s effigy. Throughout my life, I don’t remember seeing an effigy of Raavan but I got lucky this time. You would be surprised to know where I found this one – in a Business Park! And I found this super cute – not one but 9 grinning faces!

It’s hard for me to go totally wordless so here are some quick facts :

  • This Raavan has 9 heads depicting one head sacrificed to Lord Shiva.
  • Did you know that the 10 heads of Raavan depict the knowledge of 6 Shastras and 4 Vedas?
  • Raavan is also known as Dashaanan (Dasa meaning ten and anan meaning face)
  • Raavan was born to a sage, father and a kshatriya rakshasa mother thus attaining a status of Brahmarakshas

  1. I counted twice to make sure why one was missing 😀 now, I know. Also, Raavan ruled 10 kingdoms and so 10 heads, obviously also due to the incomparable knowledge indeed.

    1. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Yes, he was really well read and devotee of Shiva. It is said he got killed by Ram cos he wanted to attain Nirvana by getting killed by an incarnation of God.
