On weekdays, when I have to go to office, I don’t get a chance to walk outside. My walks on such days are inside my apartment complex which is pretty green and has many trees. Last week, while walking within the campus, I noticed a small shrub with blooms that looked like pomegranate but it was not. So I stopped to check. These were blooms and looked exotic.
Later I ID’ed the shrub and I found that this is the Redvine Flowering Maple. It has many names including the Chinese Lantern. The plant is native to south Brazil, Argentina and other parts of South America. It was introduced to India by the British and has become naturalized in many parts of India where climate is milder and region is hilly. Which is probably why I spotted this in Bangalore.
